Read this article to learn how to change the English accent of Alexa's voice. Although all voices are female, you can choose between an American, Canadian, Australian, Indian or British (UK) accent. Just be careful as this change will decrease Alexa's ability to recognize your voice if you don't speak with the selected accent.
Steps
Step 1. Open the Alexa app
If you don't already have the app installed on your device, download it from the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS) and log in with your Amazon account email address and password
Step 2. Tap the gear icon located in the lower right corner
The settings menu will open.
Step 3. Tap the Alexa device whose voice you want to change
If you haven't customized your device name, it will be listed as "Echo" or "Echo Dot".
Step 4. Scroll down and tap Language
The language currently in use will be displayed.
Step 5. Tap the dropdown menu and select a different English
Alexa will speak with the accent from the country you select. The options are:
- United States (United States);
- Canada (Canada);
- India (India);
- Australia (Australia);
- United Kingdom (United Kingdom).
Step 6. Tap Save Changes
You will be warned about malfunctions arising from choosing an accent other than your own.
Step 7. Tap Yes, Change to confirm
Okay, you changed Alexa's voice!
Repeat the procedure and go back to the previous voice if you are not satisfied with the change
Tips
- If you don't speak with the regional accent set for your device, Alexa may not recognize your voice as well. To work around this problem, try to imitate your chosen accent or speak in a neutral voice (no accent).
- In addition to the various types of English, you can also select German and Japanese languages. Unfortunately, Portuguese has not yet been implemented in the service. If you are fluent or learning one of these languages, try it out!
