The hairline eyelash extension has a beautiful result, but, like everything that is good, it doesn't last long! To attach the extensions, professionals rely on a very strong glue, resistant to water and soap, so that they don't come off so easily. When taking them off, you need to loosen this glue, which is not a simple task, but it can be done at home. If you want to know how, read our article!
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Running the remover at home
Step 1. Buy an eyelash glue remover
As the glue used in the procedure is quite strong, common false eyelash removers may not work. In this case, buy a specific one for the glue used in stretching and that comes with a professional seal.
- You can find this product in pharmacies, perfumeries and online stores.
- If you have stretched with a professional, ask what solvent he uses.
Step 2. take off the makeup to facilitate.
With the help of a cotton swab, a handkerchief and a good makeup remover, clean the entire area of the eyes, removing any traces of mascara or eyeliner. This makes it easier to distinguish the real eyelashes from the false ones.
- Use the makeup remover of your choice.
- Do not use cotton as it can loosen fibers in the lashes.
Step 3. Protect the skin under your eyes
Buy specific stickers for this region and stick them to protect the skin, which is very delicate. To place them, just take the backing film and stick them following the shape of the eyes. To keep them secure, flatten them after placing them well.
- This is optional, but it helps to prevent contact between your skin and the remover, which can cause irritation.
- These stickers can be found in pharmacies, perfumeries and online stores.
Step 4. Apply the remover to two clean mascara brushes
The ideal is to use those disposable ones, as it is not good to use them again. To apply, run the remover on both brushes, but save one for later.
- One of the brushes will be used to remove the glue, the other the eyelashes.
- If you prefer, let the remover pass through the second brush just before using it. We advise you to apply both of them at once because, after applying the remover to your eyes, you will have to keep them closed at all times, which makes handling the applicators difficult.
- Keep the second brush close to you so you can find it even with your eyes closed.
Step 5. Apply the remover with your eye closed so that nothing gets into it
This product can cause stinging and irritation, so be careful. Close your eyes well before applying and keep them that way until you have removed the false lashes.
Ideally, you have someone to help, both with the remover and with the removal of your eyelashes. This way, you can apply it to both eyes at once, which makes the process much faster. But if it doesn't, no problem
Tip:
If you don't have someone to help, do one eye at a time so you don't get in the way.
Step 6. Pass the applicator from the middle to the ends of the lashes
Make it as if you were putting on mascara, but concentrate on the tips of your lashes, which is where the extensions are. No need to apply the remover on natural hairs.
Are you putting remover on one eye? You can open the other one without a problem
Step 7. Run the remover under the lashes, but not reaching the root
To make sure all the glue comes out, start a little below half of the strands, being very careful not to touch the root to avoid irritation.
If you know exactly where the glue was applied, skip this step, applying the remover directly over it
Caution:
If you do end up getting remover in your eyes, rinse them well with running water.
Step 8. Let the remover take effect for about three minutes
Since you'll have your eyes closed, it's nice to set a timer before starting the application to leave the product as long as necessary.
Depending on the remover you're using, the action time can take up to five minutes. To be sure, read the instructions before using
Step 9. To remove the extensions, pass the second applicator on the lashes
Remember that brush you left out there at the beginning? Now is the time to use it. Pass it on your eyelashes, going from the middle to the ends to remove the false hairs.
- You will have to use it several times to get everything out, leaving only your natural lashes.
- After removing them, throw the extensions away.
Step 10. To remove the remover, apply a mild make-up remover
Count on the help of a tissue or a cotton swab to clean your eyes, leaving them totally free of the product.
If you want, you can wash your face, too
Method 2 of 3: Using Steam and Oil
Step 1. Take off makeup to make it easier
With the help of a cotton swab, a handkerchief and a good makeup remover, clean the entire area of the eyes, removing any traces of mascara or eyeliner. This makes it easier to distinguish the real eyelashes from the false ones.
Use your favorite makeup remover
Step 2. Fill a bowl with boiling water
Heat it on the stove or in the microwave and carefully place it in a heat-resistant container. Then place it on a table or counter that you can lean on.
If you like, put an essential oil in the water. It can be lavender, tea tree, mint, eucalyptus, whichever you prefer
Step 3. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the steam for about fifteen minutes
Set a timer and put your face in contact with the steam, covering your head with a towel so it doesn't escape. Don't forget to keep a distance from the water so you don't get burned.
The steam will loosen the glue from the extensions, helping to remove them more easily
Step 4. Dip a cotton ball in olive oil or coconut oil
Choose an oil of your choice and soak a cotton swab with it so as not to irritate your skin.
- Did you opt for coconut oil? Then melt it in microwave before use.
- Chances are you'll need more than one cotton swab to get all your lashes out, so it's a good idea to keep a box handy.
Caution:
Do not let the oil get into your eyes. In case of accidental contact, wash them with plenty of cold water.
Step 5. Oil your eyelashes until the extensions come out
Start from the corner of your eyes, running the cotton swab over your eyelashes several times, until they start to come out. Do this until only the natural ones are left.
- If your skin becomes irritated, stop the application, wash your face and leave to remove the rest of the lashes with a professional.
- If necessary, apply more oil to the cotton swab or take another one.
- Do not pull on the extensions as you could end up damaging your natural lashes.
- If the extensions don't come off easily, apply a little more oil with a clean mascara applicator and let it work for a minute. Then comb your lashes with it, until the stretch comes out.
Step 6. Remove excess oil with facial soap
After removing the lashes, wash your face with a little soap, massaging the skin well to remove all the oil. Afterwards, rinse your face with cold water and dry it with a clean towel.
Use the facial soap of your choice
Method 3 of 3: Counting on a Professional
Step 1. Return to the salon
Extensions are usually made with surgical glues, which are quite strong. Without the right products, it is almost impossible to take it off, so the ideal is to resort to a professional so you don't have any problems. To do this, make an appointment with the same person who placed them.
If you've had your eyelashes for less than a week, go to the salon to get them out. This is because the glue will be too strong and you could get hurt if you try to remove it yourself
Tip:
It's not very cheap to remove your eyelashes in the salon, but some usually don't charge, especially in case of allergic reactions to the glue.
Step 2. If you are concerned about applying, go to another salon
Although it is difficult to have problems with extension, lack of practice or training can lead to complications. If you are not very happy with the result, go to another salon and ask them to redo the work. Look for another professional in case of:
- Eyelashes misplaced, with a strange appearance;
- Eye pain;
- Itching or burning;
- Redness.
Step 3. If you experience pain, irritation, redness or swelling, see your doctor
In some cases, extensions can cause allergies or infections, especially when misplaced. If you want to remove them precisely because they are bothering you, it is better to go to the doctor to find out what the best procedure is.
It's rare, but infections can have serious complications, so it's always a good idea to see your doctor. Most likely, he will refer you to an ophthalmologist, who will be able to take better care of your case
Tips
- You can also try removing the extensions with a baby oil or an oil-based make-up remover. Just don't forget to moisten your lashes before trying to remove the extensions.
- If none of the at-home methods worked, go see a professional.
Notices
- Don't pull on the extensions as you could end up pulling your eyelashes out together.
- These procedures can cause permanent damage to the lashes when done incorrectly. It is best to always have the help of a professional.
- Eyelash lengthening can cause pain and infections when not done correctly. If you notice symptoms such as irritation, redness, swelling, or vision problems, see your doctor right away.
