Mathematicians say that numbers are the language of the universe. Numerologists go further and believe that numbers can define who we are and what we do. With a few simple calculations, you can figure out the top five numbers that help you better understand your own life.
Method 1 of 6: Finding the Destination Number
Step 1. Understand the meaning of this number
The destination number is considered the most important among the main numbers. It shows an outline of life's potential, the path you will follow, and the reasons that will shape it. This issue outlines the lessons you will learn, the challenges you will face, and the opportunities you will have. The final choice to deviate from this path that the number teaches is yours, but in numerology it is believed that the most satisfactory option is to follow the route traced by the number of the destination.
- All of the positive characteristics associated with this number manifest as unique skills and abilities that help the person in all aspects of life.
- The associated negative characteristics and it show its flaws. Or rather, they point to areas of your inner and outer life that need attention in order to find balance.
Step 2. Calculate your destination number
To do this, simply add your birth date numbers down to a single digit. However, the method is quite specific. Let's use the date December 17, 1986 as an example. (Note: See section at bottom of page to learn more about each number.)
- Reduce the day, month and year to a single number. It is normal to need to do this more than once for some numbers. If so, just repeat the technique until you get just one digit or a master number.
- Month: 12 = 1+2 = 3
- Day: 17 = 1+7 = 8
- Year: 1986 = 1+9+8+6 = 28 = 2+8 = 10 = 1+0 = 1
- Then add the three numbers, or master numbers: 3+8+1 = 12 = 1+2 = 3.
- And, in this way, with the example date of December 17, 1986, one arrives at number 3.
Step 3. Don't forget the master numbers
With a lot of meanings, generally indicating great purpose and power, the numbers 11, 22 and 33 are considered masters. When doing the calculation for numerology, the rule is that the month of November (11), as well as the 11th and 22nd of each month, are reduced to 2, 2 and 4 respectively. However, in the case of the destination number, there is an exception.
- For example, if the above date was November 17, 1986, the initial reduction would be: 11+8+1 = 20 = 2+0 = 2, where 2 is the destination number.
Step 4. Note that you don't add all the date numbers together, that is, 1+2+1+7+1+9+8+6
Instead, the day, month, and year are first reduced, one at a time, and then added together. This is symbolic and is related to the Cycles of Life, which divide your existence into three cycles of growth, meaning and challenge.
Method 2 of 6: Finding Your Expression Number
Step 1. Discover your innate talents and imperfections
The expression number emphasizes the personal talents and shortcomings you have brought into the world. While the number of the destination reveals the road along which one will walk throughout life, the number of expression exposes the peculiarity and nature of these steps. If we consider the destiny number from the point of view of reincarnation, it represents the lesson that the individual needs to learn in this life. In relation to this question, the expression number reflects the core of the being, including the personal history of the past lives that the person brings with them to the Earth. For this, the name is used, as it represents the innate character of the self, as well as what was passed on to you at the time of birth.
Step 2. Add the numbers that represent each letter of your full baptismal name using the table below
In the same way as calculating the destination number, it is necessary to reduce the numbers of each name individually, before adding the results. Thus, the individual character and the different facets of each name (and each self) are honored before discovering the meaning of all together.
Step 3. See the example below
Let's say the name is Robert Nesta Marley.
- ROBERT = 9+6+2+5+9+2 = 33 = 3+3 = 6
- IN THIS = 5+5+1+2+1 = 14 = 1+4 = 5
- MARLEY = 4+1+9+3+5+7 = 29 = 2+9 = 11
- And, finally, by adding up all the names, you arrive at this number: 6+5+11 = 22. Since the end result is a master number, there is no need to reduce the two digits to one. Now you know that Bob Marley's expression number was 22.
Method 3 of 6: Finding the Soul Number
Step 1. Learn your soul number
The calculation of this number consists of the sum of the vowels in the name. For thousands of years, many cultures have used the sound of vowels to go into a trance and lift their spirits. Therefore, it can be said that contact with the vowels (so to speak) of a person's name reveals a greater purpose. In this way, the soul number (also known as the heart's desire number or motivation number) can help you gain a greater understanding of the forces that guide your true self. It gives the answer to the question: "What is my deepest purpose?" It has to do with what you want to be in life and what you want to have and achieve. The relationships you cultivate as well as those you avoid can be revealed through this number.
Step 2. Calculate the soul number
Add up the vowel values of your full baptismal name. Taking the same example in Bob Marley's full name, ROBERT IN THIS MARLEY, we have the vowels O, E, E, A, A, E. With the help of the table above, these vowels lead us to the following calculation:
- O+E = 6+5 = 11 = 1+1 = 2
- E+A = 5+1 = 6
- A+E = 1+5 = 6
- 2+6+6 = 14 = 1+4 = 5
Method 4 of 6: Finding the Personality Number
Step 1. Discover how you interact with the world
If vowels tell us what is most true about our inner self, perhaps consonants tell us what is seen from the outside. In the study of numerology, this is what is believed. The personality number shows the facets of a person that are easiest to demonstrate to others. It expresses the way to filter people and experiences you want in life from your external behavior.
This number goes beyond your attitude and also explains what others perceive about you in a brief encounter. It reveals the main characteristics of your personality that are noticed with little effort by those around you
Step 2. Calculate the personality number using the consonants of your full name
Follow the same procedure taught above adding only the consonants. Going back to the name ROBERT IN THIS MARLEY, we have the consonants R, B, R, T, N, S, T, M, R, L, Y. Remember that Y is a consonant and not a vowel.
- R+B+R+T = 9+2+9+2 = 22 = 2+2 = 4
- N+S+T = 5+1+2 = 8
- M+R+L+Y = 4+9+3+7 = 23 = 2+3 = 5
- 4+8+5 = 17 = 1+7 = 8
Method 5 of 6: Finding the birth day number
Step 1. Understand the meaning of your birthday
Although this number has less influence than the others, it is still considered one of the main ones. It represents a special gift or talent that will help you on your way. In the various circles of New Age knowledge and practices (such as numerology), it is common to find people who believe that we choose the day of our birth, or else that we are destined to be born on that specific date. Thus, the number of the day of birth has a special meaning, explaining the unique gift that each one has to carry forward.
Step 2. Discover yours
In this case, you don't need to do any calculations - the number is simply the day you were born. No need to reduce it. So if someone was born on the 13th, or 23rd or 31st, for example, the number is 13, 23 and 31 respectively.
Method 6 of 6: Deducing the Main Features of Each Number
Step 1. Understand the fundamentals of each number
Below is a list of characteristics, good and bad, associated with each of the numbers. For more detailed information, search for your specific number on the internet (note: 11, 22 and 33 are "master numbers". The qualities of the number 11 are the same as the number 2, but intensified - so are the numbers 22 and 4, as well as 33 and 6).
