Read this article to learn how to organize your Gmail messages into bookmarks, which act like folders, separating your emails into categories. You can create and add emails to bookmarks in both the Gmail mobile app and desktop version.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Creating Bookmarks in Gmail Desktop
Step 1. Access Gmail in a web browser
If you are already logged in, the inbox will be displayed.
Otherwise, click “Sign In” in the upper right corner of the screen and enter your email and password to continue
Step 2. Select the emails you want to move
Click on the box on the left side of each message.
Step 3. Click on the “Bookmarks” icon, which is a label and is at the top of the input box, below the search field
A dropdown menu will appear.
Step 4. Click Create New at the end of the drop-down menu
Another window will appear.
If you have already created bookmarks, they will appear in the drop-down menu. To move selected emails to their respective folders, just click on the desired name
Step 5. Enter the name of the bookmark to be created
Enter a designation in the text box at the top of the pop-up.
You can also choose “Nest bookmark to” and choose an existing bookmark. What you create will become a “subfolder” of the main bookmark
Step 6. Click Create in the lower right corner of the window
The bookmark will appear and the emails you previously chose will be added to it.
Step 7. Hide marked emails from inbox
If you want to “hide” messages you've already tagged, click the “File” button (a box with a down arrow at the top of the screen). The selected emails will disappear from the inbox, but can be viewed by clicking on the corresponding bookmark, which will be among the options on the left.
You may need to click “More ▼” or scroll down to find it
Step 8. Add other emails to the bookmark
In order for other messages to be inserted in the same marker, select them by clicking on the box on the side. Then click on a tag icon and the name of the bookmark in the drop-down menu.
Clicking and dragging the selected emails to the bookmark name on the left will also work
Method 2 of 2: Creating Bookmarks in the Gmail Mobile App
Step 1. Open Gmail by tapping on its icon (an “M” on a white background)
You will be redirected to your inbox if you are already logged in.
Otherwise, enter email and password, and tap “Enter”
Step 2. In the upper left corner of the screen, choose the ☰ icon
A menu will appear.
Step 3. Scroll down and tap + Create New near the bottom of the menu
A pop-up window will appear.
Step 4. Create the bookmark
Enter his name and select "Done" in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Tap ☰ to make the menu reappear
Step 6. Scroll up and choose Primary at the top of the menu
You will be returned to the main inbox screen.
Another option is to tap the “Social”, “Promotions” or “Updates” tags if you like
Step 7. Select the messages that should be moved to the folder
Tap and hold over an email until a tick appears to its left; then just choose the other emails you want to move.
Step 8. Tap ⋯ in the upper right corner of the screen; a pop-up menu will appear
On Android, the icon is replaced by “⋮”
Step 9. Choose Change Bookmarks at the top of the menu
Step 10. Tap the marker to place a tick in its checkbox (on the right)
If you have more than one bookmark, you can tap all that you want to link to the messages you selected
Step 11. Tap the ✓ icon in the upper right corner of the screen
The tag will be applied to the emails that have been selected by adding them to the corresponding folder.
- To hide emails from the inbox, select them and tap the “File” button (a down arrow inside a small black box) at the top of the screen.
- View the bookmark by tapping “☰”, scroll down and choose its name. All messages that have been “tagged” for that bookmark will be displayed.
