This article will teach you how to look up the amount of free space left on a pen drive in Windows or macOS. You will also be able to see other drive information, such as the total size and space currently in use.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Windows 10 and 8
Step 1. Press ⊞ Win+E keys to open "File Explorer"
You can also open the "File Explorer" by clicking the folder icon in the "Start" menu.
Connect the pen drive if it is not already connected
Step 2. Click This PC in the left-hand pane
You may need to scroll down a bit to find it.
Step 3. Right click on the pen drive
It can be found in the right-hand panel under the "Devices and Drives" section. Then a menu of options will be expanded.
Step 4. Click Properties from the menu
Doing so will open the "General" tab of the "Properties" dialog.
Step 5. Find the amount of space available next to "Free space"
You will also see a pie chart with the ratio of free and used space. The total drive space can be found next to "Capacity" above the pie chart.
Method 2 of 3: Windows 7 and earlier versions
Step 1. Double click on the Computer icon on the desktop
On Windows XP, this icon appears labeled as My computer. If you can't find it on your desktop, click on the "Start" menu and select Computer' or My computer.
Connect the pen drive if it is not already connected
Step 2. Right click on the pen drive
You can find it under "Hard Disk Drives" or "Devices with Removable Storage" in the right-hand panel. Then a menu of options will be expanded.
Step 3. Click Properties from the menu
Doing so will open the "General" tab of the "Properties" dialog window.
Step 4. Find the amount of space available next to "Free space"
You will also see a pie chart with the ratio of free and used space. The total drive space can be found next to "Capacity" above the pie chart.
Method 3 of 3: Mac OS
Step 1. Plug the pen drive into the Mac's USB port
After a short while, his icon should appear on the desktop.
If you don't see this icon, open the Finder by clicking the two-color smiley face icon in the dock; you should see it under "Devices" in the left-hand panel
Step 2. Right click on the pen drive
Then a menu of options will be expanded.
Step 3. Click Get Info from the menu

Step 4. Find the amount of free space next to "Available"
This option can be found right below the "Capacity" property, which tells you the amount of total space on the device. The value next to "Used" informs the amount of space currently in use by files saved on the pen drive.
