This article will teach you how to open and insert an image into Photoshop. When you do, it will open in edit mode. Opening an image will also insert it as a new layer in the existing Photoshop file. This is very useful when combining elements of an image.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Open an Image in Photoshop

Step 1. Open Photoshop
It has a blue square icon with the letters "Ps" inside.

Step 2. Click File in the menu bar at the top of the screen

Step 3. Click Open
Doing so will open a file browser that you can use to browse the images.

Step 4. Navigate to the desired image and select it
Use the file browser window to browse the image on your computer. Then click on it to select it.

Step 5. Click Open to load the image into Photoshop
You can also click Open on the welcome screen and navigate to the image to open it
Method 2 of 2: Insert an Image into Photoshop

Step 1. Open Photoshop

Step 2. Open an image or Photoshop file
You can open an existing file or create a new one.

Step 3. Click File in the menu bar at the top of the screen

Step 4. Click Location
Doing so will open the file browser window, allowing you to navigate to the image.

Step 5. Navigate to the image and select it
Use the file browser window to browse the image on your computer. Then click on it to select it.

Step 6. Click Location
Doing so will insert the image into the Photoshop file or as a new layer.
