Read in this article how to install, configure and play Fortnite on a computer, console or mobile device. You will also learn tips and techniques on how to stay alive during matches.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Downloading and configuring the game

Step 1. Download and install Fortnite
It is available for Mac and Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, iPhone and Android. Just go to the app store of the chosen service and search by name of the game.
- Beware: any paid version of Fortnite will not be the “Battle Royale” game, which is covered in the article.
- To install Fortnite on Windows, you will need to go to the Epic Games download page. Click on “Windows” and then double click on the downloaded installation file; choose “Install” and follow the directions provided.

Step 2. Open Fortnite
Just choose the application's icon from the library or “Applications” folder.
In Windows, double-click the “Epic Games Launcher” icon

Step 3. Create an account
On the registration page, select “Create Account” and enter your first and last name, username, email and password. Don't forget to check “I have read and agree to the terms of service before clicking “Create Account”.
On Windows, you will need to click “Create Account” before providing the email. Choose “Install” under the title, follow the instructions and launch Fortnite by selecting “Play”

Step 4. Set the starting mode
First choose the type ("Squads", for example), and in the next menu, how the dispute will take place:
- Solo: 100 players fight each other.
- Doubles: A double will be formed with another player to face another 49.
- Squads: You'll team up with three users to take on 24 other teams.
- Soaring 50's: Along with 49 players, you'll face another team of 50 users. In this mode, gliders can be reused (this is a Limited Time Mode).

Step 5. Select Play at the bottom of the screen
Wait for Fortnite to load and set the game type. You will be transferred to a lobby with more players; as soon as it is full, everyone will be put into a new match.
Part 2 of 2: Playing Fortnite

Step 1. Understand the game's premise
In essence, Fortnite is an elimination-type shooter where you have to be the last survivor (or part of the squad). The best players are often the most cautious and the ones who pay close attention to the situation.
Surviving in Fortnite is far more important than killing others

Step 2. Familiarize yourself with the basics of the game
There are a few practices that Fortnite uses to differentiate your play style:
- Entry Point: All players start at the same location, a flying bus, from which they need to jump to land on the island.
- Pickaxe: All participants will have a pickaxe in their inventory. It can be used for anything from attacking enemies to gathering resources.
- Resources: Materials such as wood can be collected using the pickaxe on certain objects such as houses and trees. Then, these resources must be used to build structures such as barricades or towers.
- Storm: Storm makes the edges of the map unaccessible as the game progresses. For this, it expands and enters the map at certain moments in the game (at the three-minute mark, for example). If caught in the Storm, you will slowly die.

Step 3. Escape the Storm
As soon as the match reaches the three-minute mark, the Storm will appear in the vicinity of the map, gradually growing and shrinking the area of contention, forcing the survivors to get closer and closer. Contact with it will quickly deplete your health, causing death if you remain on it too long.
Most of the time, Storm kills several players from the mid or late range of the clash, so be aware of her position as the game progresses

Step 4. Be cautious at first
To win at Fortnite, just stay alive while all other players are dead; speaking like this it sounds easy, but the best way to survive is to avoid unnecessary risks and confrontations.
Aggressive strategies can be used, but they should only work best for faster and more experienced players

Step 5. Land on the Crooked Towers
Many players jump off the bus early in the game when they see a very large settlement; instead of doing the same, wait to get off the bus at the last second, looking for a small house or village instead of sprawling buildings.
This will put you in the vicinity of the map, meaning you will need to move farther to avoid the Storm in the final part of the contest

Step 6. Find a weapon as soon as possible
The pickaxe can be used as a last resort if necessary, but there are a number of weapons, such as assault rifles, snipers and shotguns, that often dominate Fortnite conflicts.
Remember that having any weapon is better than none, so it's okay to grab a pistol or submachine gun if you don't find the one you're looking for. Afterwards, they can be exchanged anyway

Step 7. Take advantage of resources to build a shelter as you see fit
Use the pickaxe on wood or rocks to collect materials that can be used to build towers, barricades, walls and more. Player-built shelters are often unprotected, but they serve to increase the layers of protection between your character and an enemy who already knows your location.
So as not to waste resources on shelter, you can hide in ones that are already set up, such as houses, or use shrubs and other natural formations as cover

Step 8. Keep your back to the water
Keeping your eyes on the center of the map, with your back to the water, decreases the risk that someone will sneak up to kill you, especially if the Storm is already consuming the map.
- Roughly speaking, you just can't be attacked from the water and the Storm, so these are the only points you can turn your back on in “safety”.
- However, be careful not to get caught between a fight and a Storm, as this will force you to participate in a conflict that may be beyond your capabilities.

Step 9. Communicate with your team
In Doubles or Squad matches, it's critical to talk to your teammates to find out where your opponents are, what resources they've discovered, and much more.
- In Solo games, this step can be skipped.
- In addition, you can communicate to partners that you have been shot down, allowing you to be quickly revived by someone else.

Step 10. Assess enemies before engaging in skirmishes
From a distance, it should be possible to see what their weapon is, which is important at times when you can't easily find the most powerful weapons. Trying to shoot down an opponent who has a rifle, using a pistol, is almost suicide!
- Perhaps the best option is to hide rather than fight someone better armed or positioned.
- It is also important to pay attention to the behavior of a potential target. If the player is looking for material to collect, the chances of catching him off guard are much greater than if he is protected in a bunker.

Step 11. Look for enemies in heavily used hiding places
Houses, bushes and other points to stay out of the opponents' view are used a lot, especially in the final stretch of the game, when everyone is more or less in the same location.
Fortnite players are very creative when it comes to "hiding spots". When you hear someone inside a house, but you can't find the intruder, your best bet is to run away than stay behind

Step 12. Keep playing
Like all other online shooters, Fortnite's learning curve is pretty steep at first; to improve, just playing and training!
