Once it hit the shelves, the Grand Theft Auto V game became one of the most popular games in history, and for good reason. In addition to the thrill of stealing cars and participating in spectacular robberies, the player has the freedom to explore the most diverse activities in an immense open world. It is possible to play golf, take arm wrestling or simply drive along the waterfront. You can even swim, whether in your character's mansion pool or in the ocean.
Steps
Step 1. Find a body of water
It won't be difficult, as the game takes place in a location inspired by the state of California. If you're playing as the character Michael De Santa, try swimming in his mansion's pool. If you are looking for a more open place, there are many lakes dotted around the map.
- Outside the city limits of Los Santos, towards the northeast, more specifically in the central region of the Tataviam mountain range, there is a large lake.
- North of Los Santos, in the middle of Vinewood, is another huge lake.
- Aside from the ocean, the largest body of water is the Alamo Sea, which gives rise to many small rivers that flow into the sea. It is located west of Sandy Shores.
Tip:
The world of GTA V boils down to a gigantic island surrounded by water. So, if you go in any direction long enough, you'll come face to face with the ocean.
Step 2. Get in the water
Just walk into it and once it's deep enough, the character will start to float.
Step 3. Start swimming
Just use the analog stick (PS3/PS4, Xbox 360/Xbox One) or the arrow keys (PC).
With the WASD keys, on the PC, the movements are as follows: W goes forward; S goes backwards; A goes to the left; and D goes to the right
Step 4. Speed up the strokes
To speed up your strokes, press the X button (PS3/PS4), the A button (Xbox 360/Xbox One) or the Shift key (PC) repeatedly.
Step 5. Dive in
When the location is deeper than the character's height, it will be possible to dive. To do this, press the R1 (PS3/PS4), RB (Xbox 360/Xbox One) or the Q (PC) button.
Step 6. Swim underwater
To go forward underwater, press X (PS3/PS4), A (Xbox 360/Xbox One) or Left Shift (PC). Its controls are reversed after the character dives (it's like flying an airplane). To return to the surface, hold the left stick down and X (PS3/PS4) or A (Xbox 360/Xbox One). On the PC, just hold the S keys and Left Shift. To dive further, hold the left stick up and press X (PS3/PS4) or A (Xbox 360/Xbox One). On the PC, just hold the W and Left Shift keys. Go left and right by moving the analog to these positions or pressing A and D on the PC.
Step 7. Attack by swimming
In water, the only weapon available will be the knife. If you need to defend yourself from sharks and other enemies, wield the knife by pressing the L1 (PS3/PS4), LB (Xbox 360/Xbox One) or Tab (PC) button. To deliver a blow, press the ball (PS3/PS4), the B (Xbox 360/Xbox One) or the R (PC).

Step 8. Check the breath bar
Like any human, your character cannot stay underwater forever. Notice the blue bar that will appear in the lower left corner of the screen, next to the life bar. It indicates how much longer he can stay immersed. As soon as you run out of breath, the character will start to lose life. If he fails to emerge before his life bar runs out, he will die.
