If you want to make your internet shopping easier and safer, PayPal is a great service to do just that. You don't need a credit card to open an account, but you will need a debit card or bank account to make purchases. Then you can use your PayPal login to buy things on sites that accept this payment method.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Opening an Account
Step 1. Go to https://www.paypal.com and find the "Register" button
Once the page loads, you will find this button in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on it to open the account.
Step 2. Enter your email and password
To use PayPal, you need a valid email address. Create a password that has letters, numbers and a special character. Capitalizing and lowercase letters also helps.
If you don't have an email address, get one for free from providers like Yahoo!, Gmail, and Hotmail
Step 3. Fill in your information
PayPal will ask you to fill in things like your name, address and phone number. This information allows PayPal to contact you if something goes wrong with your account.
- In addition, putting your address makes it easier when shopping, because you can use this address as a delivery location when buying something online.
- The address will also be used for billing.
Step 4. Check your email address
When you create an account, PayPal sends you a link to your email. You have to click on this link to confirm the email address you used to set up the account.
If it doesn't send automatically, go to "Settings" in your account and click "Update" next to the email and then "Confirm this email". Another link will be sent to your email
Part 2 of 3: Adding a Bank or Debit Card
Step 1. Click on "Wallet" in your account
On the computer, the "Wallet" will be at the top of the screen. In the mobile app, "Wallet" will be in the menu. Tap the button to access it.
Your “Wallet” is the list of debit, credit, and bank accounts associated with your PayPal account. You can connect more than one card or account
Step 2. Select the "Connect a Card or Bank" button
This button will open a page where you can choose the type of account you want to connect. Select "Connect Bank Account" or "Connect Debit Card" depending on what you prefer.
If you don't want to connect your checking account with PayPal, open a new account with an online bank such as Original, Nubank or C3
Step 3. Follow the instructions to add the necessary information
You'll need your account information regardless of the type of payment you're adding. PayPal needs this information to make payments for you.
- If it is a bank account, you will have to indicate whether it is checking or savings account. Then enter the branch and account number.
- If it is a debit card, you will need to enter the card number, expiry date and security code.
Step 4. Confirm your account if you added a bank account
Debit cards are confirmed instantly, but bank accounts need a few more things. You can confirm your account instantly by entering your ID and password or you can do it manually by asking PayPal to make small deposits into it.
- Confirm instantly using ID and password when prompted. PayPal does not store this information.
- Make manually awaiting deposits to your account in the next few days. These will be very small amounts. After that, go back to the PayPal account screen and enter the amount that was deposited into the two separate deposits. Don't get excited because the amounts are very low and PayPal withdraws them after a few days.
Part 3 of 3: Making a purchase
Step 1. Find a website that accepts PayPal
Many sites accept this form of payment, such as Mercado Livre. If a website accepts PayPal, it will have an icon for that service at the time of checkout.
- You can also check the "About" page or FAQ to see which payment methods the site accepts.
- Some brick-and-mortar stores also accept this type of payment.
Step 2. Place the products in the cart as you normally would
Using PayPal doesn't change the way you shop on a website. Just choose the things you want and put them in your cart. Keep placing items until it's time to checkout.
Step 3. Click on the "Checkout" button
Start the checkout process as you normally would. The finish button is usually in the upper right corner on most sites. This button will take you to a page where you can review your purchase and decide how you want to pay.
Step 4. Log in to your PayPal account when prompted
When you have finished your purchase, click on the "PayPal" icon to choose it as your payment method. A screen will appear asking you to login to your PayPal account using your email and password. Enter this information and click continue.
- If you are already logged into your PayPal account in this browser, it may not ask you to enter your email and password.
- This page is a PayPal secure page, so you should see "PayPal" in the URL at the top of the pop-up window.
Step 5. Confirm your purchase
PayPal's pop-up window will guide you through a few different screens. One screen will ask you which address you prefer and another will ask you which connected account you want to use to pay if you don't have a PayPal balance. Click "Confirm" to proceed with the purchase.
