Frozen broccoli is a nutritious and economical alternative to fresh broccoli. Since it's already cut, cleaned and scalded, using it for meals can also save a lot of time. Prepare frozen broccoli on the stove, microwave or oven.
Method 1 of 4: Reheating Frozen Broccoli on the Stove
Step 1. Boil salted water in a saucepan
Fill a pot with water and mix 1 tablespoon full of salt. Place the pan over high heat and wait for the water to bubble.
Before being frozen, the broccoli is blanched (boiled in boiling water and placed in an ice bath to suspend cooking). As it's already pre-cooked, you'll just need to reheat it
Step 2. Heat the broccoli in boiling water for two to four minutes
Add the broccoli to the water and in two to four minutes it will be light green and softer. At this point, turn off the heat and remove the pot from the stove.
Step 3. Drain the water, season and serve the broccoli
Take a colander, place it in the sink and pour the contents of the pan to drain the water. Transfer the broccoli to a serving dish, season and serve hot.
Seasoning options include: salt, black pepper, butter and garlic salt
Method 2 of 4: Steaming Broccoli on the Stove
Step 1. Boil water in a pot
Cover the bottom of the pan with a few inches of water - the grid or sieve must fit snugly inside the pan and should not touch the water. Place the pan over medium heat and bring the water to a boil.
- To check the water level, insert the grid or strainer into the pan before the water boils. Pour some of the water if the level is too high.
- Use at least 1 cup of water.
Step 2. Fill the grill with broccoli
When the water starts to boil, place the grill over the water and place the vegetables on the grill. Cover the pot with a lid.
Step 3. Steam the broccoli until tender, three to four minutes
Remove the lid from the pan and use a fork to see if the vegetables already have a smooth consistency. If so, remove the pan from the stove and turn off the heat.
If the broccoli is not tender, cover the pan again and let it cook for another minute
Step 4. Season and serve
Remove the lid and use kitchen gloves to remove the grate from the pan. Transfer the broccoli to a serving dish, season and serve.
Seasoning options include: salt, black pepper, olive oil or garlic salt
Method 3 of 4: Steaming Broccoli in the Microwave
Step 1. Prepare the broccoli to be steamed
Place approximately 230 g of the vegetables in a microwave-safe dish and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of water. Cover the bowl with a lid.
- If the dishes do not have a lid, cover them with a plate.
- When heated, the water will turn to steam and cook the vegetables.
Step 2. Microwave for two minutes, then stir
Place the dishes in the microwave, set the power to HIGH and cook the broccoli for two minutes. When finished, remove the dishes from the microwave, remove the lid and mix the vegetables.
When removing the lid from the crockery, steam will escape. Wear kitchen gloves to protect yourself from steam
Step 3. Cook the broccoli in the microwave for another two minutes
Cover the dishes again and return them to the microwave. Let it cook for another two minutes. Open the microwave door, remove the dishes and check that the vegetables are already well heated.
If they are still cold, return the dishes or microwave and cook for one-minute intervals until completely warmed up
Step 4. Drain the water and serve the broccoli
Take a drying rack and place it in the sink. Pour the contents of the dishes into the colander and, when the excess water is removed, transfer the broccoli to a serving dish. Season and serve.
Common spices include salt, black pepper or butter
Method 4 of 4: Baking Broccoli in the Oven
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C and prepare the baking sheet
After turning on the oven, get a baking sheet and a roll of parchment paper. Cut the baking paper to the size of the baking sheet and line it.
Instead of using tracing paper, you can cover the baking sheet with a non-stick cooking spray
Step 2. Cover the broccoli with oil and seasoning
When the oven is preheated, place 230 g of frozen broccoli in a bowl, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and spices. Use a spoon to mix the vegetables well in the oil and seasonings. Spread the contents of the bowl on the baking sheet – including excess oil.
Seasoning options include: salt, black pepper, garlic, or garlic salt
Step 3. Roast vegetables for 20 minutes and turn over
Place the broccoli in the oven and set a timer for 20 minutes. At the end of this time, remove the pan from the oven and use a spatula to turn the vegetables.
When turning them, try to redistribute the excess oil and seasoning well
Step 4. Return the broccoli to the oven to brown
Return the pan to the oven and set the timer for 10 minutes. When the timer indicates the end of 10 minutes, check the color of the vegetables. If there are any brown parts, remove the pan from the oven and serve it hot.
