Are you dying for a milkshake but you don't have a blender at home? Do not worry. It is possible to make this delicious drink in a few minutes without using this appliance. Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, a pot, or even a shaker.

- Optional: powdered chocolate, vanilla, fruit or sweets
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using a Lid Container
Step 1. Take a plastic pot big enough to hold the ingredients and have a lid, or a shaker
Since you don't have a blender, use a container with a lid or a shaker to mix the ingredients.
- It's best to choose a pot that has a lid to mix and store the rest of the milkshake. You can also use a glass jar with a lid, such as olives or palm hearts, or a bottle.
- It is also possible to use a cocktail shaker for alcoholic beverages.
- Note: if you decide to use a bottle with a spherical whisk to help beat, mix the powdered ingredients with the milk first and then add the ice cream.
Step 2. Take the ice cream and put it in the container
Since it doesn't have a blender, it's better to use a lighter ice cream. Light ice cream will make the milkshake more frothy, whereas a dense ice cream will make it creamier. But actually the problem with dense ice cream is the difficulty of mixing.
- To make ice cream easier to pick up and mix, leave it out of the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes or heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds.
- If you prefer, replace the ice cream with frozen yogurt or sorbet.
- Try making homemade ice cream. It tastes great and is easier to incorporate into a milkshake.
Step 3. Add milk
Put the milk on top of the ice cream in the pot. The ideal ratio is three parts ice cream to one part milk.
- Like ice cream, the denser the milk, the creamier the milkshake.
- If you are going to add any powdered ingredients such as malt, mix them into the milk first.
- If you have a bottle with a spherical whisk (fuê) use it to mix the milk with the powdered ingredient.
Step 4. Add remaining desired ingredients

If you're adding pieces of fruit or candy, mash them in a bowl or garlic mixer before putting them in the pot. This makes mixing the milkshake easier
Step 5. Knead and stir with a spoon
Before shaking everything to make the milkshake with that frothy texture, take a spoon and stir the ingredients well. By kneading and stirring with the spoon, you will distribute everything better and make the ice cream more liquid.
Once you don't have too many “chunks” of ice cream and the texture is consistent, you can stop stirring and kneading
Step 6. Place the lid on the pot or shaker and shake
Shake well so that the milk, ice cream and other ingredients are mixed and have a good consistency to drink from a straw.
- Shake the container as you would a shaker. Put one hand on top and one hand on the bottom, swinging up and down.
- Shake it for 15 seconds or so. If it's still too solid, shake it more.
Step 7. Enjoy your milkshake
After shaking the pot, remove the lid, take a straw and try. If it is too liquid, add another scoop of ice cream. If it is too full-bodied, add more milk and mix again.
Once you're satisfied with your drink, grab a straw or spoon and enjoy
Method 2 of 2: Using a Bowl
Step 1. Take a large bowl
Since you don't have a blender to blend the milkshake, you'll need to use a large bowl to mix the ingredients.
- Alternatively, use a food processor or mixer in place of a blender.
- If you don't have any of these devices, a hand whisk, also called a fue, works well.
Step 2. Place the ice cream
The lighter versions will make the milkshake more frothy and the fuller ones will make it creamier. If the ice cream has pieces of any ingredient, leave it out of the freezer for a longer time to facilitate mixing.
- To make ice cream easier to pick up and mix, leave it at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes or heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds.
- If you are going to use frozen yogurt or sorbet, you don't need to leave it out of the freezer, because these variations are naturally lighter.
- If you are going to add pieces of fruit or candy, leave the pieces very small or crush them.
Step 3. Pour milk into bowl with ice cream
The ideal is a ratio of 3 parts ice cream to 1 milk.
- Like ice cream, the thicker the milk, the creamier the milkshake.
- If using any powdered ingredient, mix it with milk before putting it in the bowl. The powdered ingredient dissolves much easier in milk first than it does in ice cream. Use a bottle with a spherical whisk, if you have one, or stir it with a fork or spoon.
Step 4. Mix the ingredients
There are several ways to mix the ingredients depending on the desired consistency. If you want something full-bodied, stir it with a spoon or a kneader. If you prefer the drink to be more fluid, beat it with a hand whisk.
If you have an electric mixer, mix the ingredients in the same way you would a cake batter
Step 5. See the texture
Take a spoon and experiment to see if the consistency is right for you.
Add a little milk to thin the mixture or more ice cream to make it thicker
Step 6. Put the milkshake in a glass
Put in the amount you are going to take now. Thus, you can drink the milkshake without it melting, thinning or having a porridge texture.
- If you want the milkshake to be very cold, put the glass in the freezer while mixing the ingredients.
- Put some whipped cream on top if you like and put a straw.
- Ready! Good milkshake!
Tips
- You can also use chocolate milk instead of powdered chocolate.
- If you don't like liquid milkshake, leave it in the freezer. Just keep an eye out so it doesn't freeze all over!
- Don't leave the ice cream out of the freezer for too long or it will melt and have a mush texture.
- Do not use chocolate bars at room temperature. Melt it down first.
- You can use powdered malt to make a classic milkshake or any other powdered ingredient such as chocolate and cereal mixes.
