3 Ways to Make Instant Noodles

Instant noodles - the famous "miojo", as it is called in Brazil - is a cheap meal, simple to make and popular here and around the world. It is sold in two forms: cup noodles (in the cup) and the traditional noodles, which come in the package. Just cook the product, add the seasoning (in some cases) and eat. On the other hand, if you want to take your impromptu lunch or dinner to another level, read the tips in this article for adding cheese, curry, vegetables, and even peanut butter.

Method 1 of 3: Preparing cup noodles

Descale Kettle Step 4Bullet1

Step 1. Boil some water

Add 2 or 3 cups (500 to 700 ml) of water to a kettle or saucepan and place over medium heat on the stove. Wait five to ten minutes until the water actually starts to boil.

  • The water will be just right when it starts to form bubbles on the surface.
  • Some kettles "beep" when the water boils. If yours does, turn off the flame at this point.
  • If necessary, you can also boil water in the microwave. However, it can get too hot and even explode in the cup, causing severe burns.

Step 2. Prepare the noodles

First, pull half the lid of the noodle cup back and take out the seasoning packet. Then open it and season the pasta. Shake the glass from side to side so the noodles do not stick together and distribute the flavor well.

Some cup noodles come with an exact packet of peppery seasoning. Use it to your liking

Step 3. Add boiling water to the noodles

After the water has boiled and the cup noodles are seasoned, add the liquid to the cup until the noodles are submerged.

Many cup noodles have a line that marks where the water should go. If not yours, fill the body until the liquid reaches 2.5 cm from the top

Step 4. Wait for the noodles to cook

After adding the water, cover the glass again and wait three minutes. Still, some brands recommend more or less time than that. Read the label to find out more.

Fold the lid back into place to close the cup tightly. If it doesn't work, place a saucer or other small plate in the place

Step 5. Stir the noodles and have a good appetite

After the three minutes, take the lid off the cup once more and use chopsticks (noodle sticks) or a fork to mix and separate the noodles. If it's smoking, wait another minute or two so it doesn't burn your mouth.

  • You can eat noodles with chopsticks or a fork.
  • Add more spices to taste.

Method 2 of 3: Making Traditional Noodles

Make Instant Noodles Step 6

Step 1. Boil some water in a saucepan

Use a casserole that contains at least 2 L of water. Add 2 ½ cups (600 ml) of the liquid and place it over a medium flame on the stove for a few minutes.

The casserole has to be the ideal size to contain the water and the noodles to stay submerged

Step 2. Add seasoning

Carefully open the noodle package and remove the seasoning. Then open the seasoning and sprinkle it into the boiling water. Stir with chopsticks or a spoon to incorporate the flavor.

Be careful that hot water does not splash on you

Step 3. Add the instant noodles

Slowly pour the noodles into the water and use a pair of long chopsticks to dip it a few times to speed up the cooking process.

  • If the strands of the noodles are longer, place the entire dry "package" in water.
  • If the strands are medium, break the bundle into a few pieces and add one at a time.
  • If the strands are short, break the bundle into several small pieces and add one at a time.

Step 4. Cook the noodles

Let the noodles simmer for three or four minutes. When it softens, start to stir slowly with chopsticks or a large spoon. Finally, it will be cooked when the strands start to come loose.

  • The noodles will turn pale yellow when they are actually cooked.
  • The strands of the noodles will come loose little by little and spread through the casserole.
  • Each strand will curl when you take everything out of the casserole.

Step 5. Serve the noodles

Turn off the stove after cooking the noodles and carefully transfer it to a large bowl. Finally, wait a minute or two if it's smoking.

Eat the noodles with chopsticks or a fork

Method 3 of 3: Adding Other Ingredients to Instant Noodles

Step 1. Add an egg to the noodles

This alternative only works if you prepare the noodles on the stove. When the noodles are almost cooked, break a raw egg in the middle of the casserole.

  • Stir the raw egg into the pasta for it to cook slowly.
  • Do not stir the egg if you prefer it to be whole. In this case, cover the casserole and wait 30 seconds to a minute.

Step 2. Add spices that optimize the flavor of the noodles

You can use a variety of condiments to improve the flavor of instant noodles. Add them before or after cooking and use them with the normal noodle seasoning or as a substitute. For example:

  • Add 1 tablespoon of miso to make the noodles fuller.
  • Add 2 teaspoons Korean seasoning, 1 teaspoon soy seasoning, 1 teaspoon rice vinegar, ½ teaspoon sesame oil and ½ teaspoon honey to make a more traditional style noodle Asian.
  • Add ½ tablespoon butter and mix well to make Thai-style noodles.

Step 3. Add healthy vegetables to the noodles

You can add several different vegetables to instant noodles. Add a few that cook quickly just before serving, or if you prefer slow cooking alternatives, use vegetables preserved with the bleaching technique.

  • Spinach, fine cabbage leaves and pak-choi are examples of vegetables that cook fast.
  • Broccoli, carrots and peas are examples of vegetables that take time to cook.
  • If necessary, defrost other vegetables beforehand.

Step 4. Add a slice of cheese to the noodles

When the pasta is done, place a slice of cheese on top of it. The cheese will melt and create a very tasty layer on top of the noodles. Each different type has its own effect; try a few and see what you think.

When the cheese has melted, stir it well to incorporate the flavor into the noodles

Step 5. Exchange the instant seasoning packet for beef, chicken, or vegetable stock

The seasoning pack of most instant noodles is made from a mixture of broth, sodium and dried herb powder. If you don't like to eat too much sodium or prefer the flavor of traditional beef or vegetable broth, change the package.

  • You can boil an optimal volume of water to prepare the noodles with the beef or vegetable stock instead of following the recommended 2 ½ cups (600 ml).
  • Make beef, vegetables or chicken broth at home or buy it at the market.
