There are many reasons why someone might want to bake a cake without putting eggs or oil in the recipe. Maybe you're out of these ingredients on hand, you're allergic to one of them, or you want to eliminate some of the fat in your cake recipe. Whatever the reason, there are many ways to prepare a cake without using oil and eggs.
Ingredients
Servings:
6 to 8
Setup time:
5 minutes
Cooking time:
30 to 40 minutes
- 1 box of cake mix
- 2 tablespoons with vinegar
- 2 tablespoons with vanilla
- 1 cup of apple sauce
- 1 cup of ice water
OR
- 1 box of cake mix
- 1 can of soda
OR
- 1 box of cake mix
- 350 grams of pumpkin puree
- 1/3 cup of water
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use apple sauce instead of eggs and oil
Adding apple sauce will reduce calories and still make the cake very wet.
Step 1. Prepare the cake pan and preheat the oven
Apply a little non-stick spray (such as Pam) to the bottom and four sides of the mold in a 22x33 form, in addition to a thin layer of flour over it. Preheat the oven as instructed on the cake box, which is up to about 176°C in most cases.
Step 2. Pour the cake into a bowl
Take a medium mixing bowl and pour the contents of the cake mixture into it.
Step 3. Add the other ingredients
Put other ingredients in the mixing bowl and beat so that the dough is very consistent with the cake. Add vinegar, vanilla and applesauce, beating them well.
Basically, just one cup of applesauce per cake box acts as an adequate replacement for the amount of eggs and oil that are needed. In a normal cake (if you were making it without following the instructions on the box), a cup of applesauce would replace the two eggs
Step 4. Add water
Pour water into the mixing bowl and beat the dough. Shake it gently so that no bulges are formed, continuing to mix until all the ingredients are well mixed, obtaining a homogeneous and consistent mass.
Step 5. Pour batter into prepared pan
Be sure to make the surface of the dough very smooth using a bread knife or the back of a spoon.
Note: Be careful not to spill the batter on the edges of the cake pan, as these parts will burn and will not be edible
Step 6. Bake the cake
Read the preparation instructions on the cake box and follow them. You will probably need to bake it for 30-40 minutes. Make sure you always keep an eye on the cake to make sure it doesn't bake too much.
Step 7. Allow the cake to cool before serving
Take the cake out of the oven and leave it on the counter for 15-30 minutes before serving. Otherwise it might be too hot to eat.
Note: If desired, you can frost the candy, but remember that this will add more sugar and calories
Method 2 of 3: Baking the cake with soda instead of eggs and oil
In this version, just replace all the ingredients with 1 can of soda.
Step 3. Add the vanilla soda
Place the cream soda tin into the cake mix until the dough is firm and without any bulges.
Note: Do not add water, just vanilla soda. Another option is to use diet vanilla soda to reduce the number of calories in the candy
Step 4. Pour the cake batter into the pan
Place all the batter in the cake pan you prepared, taking care that there is no excess batter around the edges.
Step 5. Bake the cake
Following the instructions on the box, bake the cake as instructed (usually 30 minutes). Remove the cake and let it sit for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Method 3 of 3: Baking with pumpkin puree in place of eggs and oil
Replacing pumpkin puree with eggs and oil will result in a consistent, moist cake.
Step 1. Preheat the oven
Follow the instructions on the box and preheat the oven to about 176°C most of the time.
Step 2. Apply a non-stick spray such as Pam and flour the cake pan
Apply a thin layer on all four corners, making sure it is evenly coated.
After coating it, place 1 tablespoon of flour in the cake pan. Gently shake it until the bottom and sides are covered in flour
Step 3. Pour the cake mixture into the medium bowl
Place the entire contents of the mixture into a medium bowl.
Step 4. Add can of pumpkin puree
Pour the pumpkin puree into the mixing bowl and beat well with the cake. Be sure to remove all bulges so that the dough is smooth and free of hard parts.
Note: Pumpkin puree works best with a yellow or white cake mix. Pumpkin taste will be diminished when using chocolate or another stronger flavor mixture
Step 5. Add water and beat
Add water to the mixture and beat it along with the pumpkin puree until it is smooth.
Step 6. Bake the cake
Place the mixture in the cake pan and then in the oven. Bake it according to the instructions on the box for about 30 minutes.
Step 7. Allow the cake to cool
Don't forget to let the cake sit for about 15 minutes after you've finished baking it, so you can eat it without burning yourself.
Tips
- You can also mix yogurt or sour cream with crushed bananas to replace eggs and oil. It is recommended to use about 350 grams of whatever ingredient you are replacing, as this amount should make up for the eggs and oil. If the dough feels too thick after you've added the crushed bananas or yogurt, add a little water until the dough reaches “normal” consistency.
- Try a variety of soda flavors. Use the "diet" if it's important to have the fewest calories possible and the clear sodas if you're going to prepare white or yellow cakes.
- Test the recipe and change the ingredients as you prefer. However, remember that some ingredients, when mixed, may not taste as good as others.
