Even without having access to an oven or wanting to turn it on on a hot day, you can still have a homemade cake using some alternative cooking method. Some of the simpler and more common options include steaming, slow-cooking, and microwave making cake.

  • 2 1/2 dessert spoons (40 g) of milk.

Method 1 of 3: Steamed Marble Cake

Make Cake Without an Oven Step 1

Step 1. Prepare the pan

Fill a large pot with water between 5 cm and 7, 6 cm and boil over high heat. Lower heat to medium and insert basket into steamer.

  • The basket must not touch the water directly.
  • At the lowest heat, the water will continue to boil. Cover the pan with the lid so the water doesn't evaporate while you prepare the dough.

Step 2. Grease the form

Cover an 8-inch baking dish with grease or non-stick cooking spray. Also pass a little flour on the bottom and sides of the pan.

You can also grease the sides of the pan with cooking spray and cover the bottom with baking paper

Step 3. Beat the butter and sugar

Mix butter and sugar in a large bowl. Beat on medium to high speed for several minutes until mixture is light and creamy.

Step 4. Add eggs

Add them to the mixture one at a time, beating at intervals.

  • After beating each egg, make sure it is well mixed with the other ingredients.
  • You will need three eggs instead of two if you are using small eggs.

Step 5. Alternate between flour and milk

Add 1/3 of the flour to the mixture and beat well. Then add half the milk and beat until uniform.

Repeat the procedure with what is left of the flour and milk. Add 1/3 of the flour and mix. Then add the rest of the milk. To finish, mix the last 1/3 of the flour

Step 6. Add the vanilla

Sprinkle the vanilla extract over the dough. Beat on medium to high speed until well blended.

Step 7. Separate the dough

Put 1/4 of the dough into a small bowl. Leave the other 3/4 to one side for now.

The smaller portion of the dough will be mixed with the powdered chocolate, and the larger portion will have a vanilla flavor

Step 8. Add the powdered chocolate

Put the chocolate powder in the smaller portion of dough. Mix well by hand or with an electric mixer on low speed.

Make Cake Without an Oven Step 9

Step 9. Combine the two doughs into the pre-prepared form

Put the vanilla dough into the greased pan and turn the chocolate dough on top.

Use a knife to carefully move the two masses without mixing them to create the marble effect

Step 10. Cover the shape

Cover the form well with aluminum foil. Fold the aluminum foil under the mold so that it is securely attached.

The top of the pan must be well covered so that moisture from the pan does not enter the dough and spoil the cake

Step 11. Steam for 30 to 45 minutes

Place the shape in the center of the preheated basket. Cover the steamer and cook the cake for 30 to 45 minutes. You can also place a toothpick in the middle of the dough. If the toothpick comes out dry, it means the cake is ready.

Steam the pan over medium heat and avoid lifting the lid while the cake cooks. Each time you lift the lid, some of the heat escapes, which can increase cooking time

Step 12. Allow to cool before serving

Take the cake out of the pan and let it cool in the tin before placing it on a tray. Decorate as you like and enjoy.

Method 2 of 3: Slow Cooking Volcano Cake

Make Cake Without an Oven Step 13

Step 1. Grease the pan

Grease the bottom and sides of the slow-cooker with a non-stick cooking spray.

  • You can also use special slow-cooker liners to make the dishes even easier to wash.
  • This recipe requires a 2 L to 4 L slow cooker. If your pan is larger or smaller, make the necessary adjustments to the recipe.

Step 2. Mix dry ingredients

Add the flour, crystal sugar, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of powdered chocolate, yeast and salt in a medium bowl. Beat until uniform.

These ingredients are the base of the dough

Step 3. Add wet ingredients

Add the milk, vegetable oil and vanilla together with the other ingredients and mix until uniform.

  • It could be that the dough gets a little lumpy. Use a tightwad to dissolve larger lumps.
  • Keep stirring until you can no longer see any of the dry ingredients.

Step 4. Make the syrup

In a medium bowl, combine crystal sugar and 1/4 cup (60 ml) of powdered chocolate. Mix with hot water.

  • Beat the two dry ingredients first. Then add water.
  • Stir until mixture is uniform and smooth. Do not leave any lumps.

Step 5. Turn the two mixtures over in the slow-cooker

Place the cake batter in the pan and cover with the syrup. Do not mix.

  • As the cake batter is thick, you will need to spread it on the bottom of the pan with a spatula or a spoon. Do this before covering the dough with the syrup.
  • Spread the syrup over the cake as evenly as possible.

Step 6. Cook over high heat

Cover the slow-cooker and turn on over high heat. Bake the cake for 2 to 2:30 am, or use a toothpick to see if the cake is done.

Do not remove the lid from the pan while the cake is cooking to avoid releasing heat and increasing cooking time

Make Cake Without an Oven Step 19

Step 7. Allow to cool slightly before serving

Turn off the pan when the cake is done. Remove the lid and let the cake rest for 30 to 40 minutes before serving.

  • Volcano cake should be served with a spoon, not sliced.
  • You can eat the cake alone or with ice cream and syrup.

Method 3 of 3: Method Three: Microwave Cake with Chocolate Chips

Make Cake Without an Oven Step 20

Step 1. Add the cake mix, sugar and milk

Place the ingredients in a microwave-safe mug and mix with a fork until smooth.

  • Not every mug can be used in the microwave. See which is the case with yours. You can also use a 250 ml microwave-safe bowl.
  • Try to make the dough as little lumpy as possible when mixing the ingredients. There may even be some lumps left, but most of them must be dissolved in the dough.
  • Ideally, there should be a space of 2.5 cm between the mass and the mouth of the mug. Pour some of the dough into another mug if the first one is full.

Step 2. Add chocolate chips

Drop the chocolate chips into the dough and mix until they are evenly distributed.

You may not use chocolate chips if you prefer a simpler cake. Other ingredients, such as nuts or granules, can also be used in equal proportions

Step 3. Place the dough in the microwave, on high power, for 60 seconds

Cover the mug with plastic wrap and heat the batter in the microwave on high power for at least 60 seconds, or until the center of the mug is set.

  • You may need to cook for another 40 seconds if the microwave is not as powerful. Continue reheating the cake at 10-second intervals until it is done if the center of the dough is not firm after the initial 60 minutes.
  • Insert a toothpick into the center of the dough. It will come out dry if the cake is done.

Step 4. Eat right away

Remove the plastic wrap and decorate the cake with whipped cream, chocolate syrup or crystal sugar. Eat directly from the mug.
