Steps
Method 1 of 4: Boiled Brussels Sprouts
Step 1. Boil a pot of water
Place a large pot of water on the stove, add a pinch of salt and wait a few minutes for the water to boil.
Step 2. Wash the Brussels Sprouts
Place 1 kilo of cabbage under running water and remove any yellowish leaves.
Step 3. Place the Brussels sprouts in boiling water and cook for 10 to 15 minutes
Cook them until they are tender. When they're done, you'll be able to skewer them with a fork.
Step 4. Strain and season the sprouts
Once they're soft, you just need to season them. Season the Brussels sprouts with 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper and 2 tsp butter. Then enjoy them while they're still hot.
You can also steam the cabbage. The procedure better preserves the color and flavor of the cabbage
Method 2 of 4: Sauteed Brussels Sprouts
Step 1. Wash and cut the Brussels sprouts
Wash the Brussels sprouts under cold running water and remove any yellowish leaves. Then cut them in half from the top of the stem, making a 1.3cm incision in it. This will help the heat penetrate into the sprouts.
Step 2. Bring 1/4 cup of olive oil to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high temperature
Use a casserole large enough to keep the sprouts sliced.
Step 3. Place the sprouts in a pan (sliced side down) and season them
Season the sprouts with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4. Saute the Brussels Sprouts
Cook them on one side for 5 minutes until golden. Then turn them the other way.
Step 5. Pour 1/3 cup of water into the casserole and finish cooking the sprouts
Water should coat the bottom of the entire pot. Cook the Brussels sprouts until the liquid evaporates and they are well cooked. Then add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to them and serve them while they are still hot.
Method 3 of 4: Toasted Brussels Sprouts
Step 1. Preheat your oven to 200°C
Step 2. Wash and trim the Brussels sprouts
Wash the sprouts under cold water, removing any yellowish leaves. Then cut the stems to speed up preparation.
Step 3. Season the Brussels Sprouts in a bowl
Top with 3 tablespoons olive oil and season with 3/4 tablespoons salt and 1/2 tablespoons black pepper.
Step 4. Stir the sprouts to evenly season them and place them in a single layer on the baking sheet
This will mix the flavors and cook them evenly.
Step 5. Bake the Brussels sprouts for 35-40 minutes or until they are soft.
After 30 minutes, start checking them with a fork to see if they're soft. Shake the pan from time to time to ensure they are cooking evenly.
Step 6. Serve
Sprinkle the rest of the salt on the Brussels sprouts and enjoy them while they are hot.
Method 4 of 4: Braised Brussels Sprouts
Step 1. Bring a pot of water to a boil
Place a large pot of water on the stove, add a pinch of salt, and wait a few minutes for the water to come to a boil.
Step 2. Wash the sprouts
Wash the sprouts under running cold water, and remove any yellowish leaves.
Step 3. Cut the sprouts
Cut them in half from the top of the stem, making a 1.3 cm incision in it.
Step 4. Boil the sprouts for 5-10 minutes
They should start to soften. Then strain them.
Step 5. Add butter, salt and garlic to a skillet and heat the ingredients
Add 2 tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 chopped garlic clove to the skillet. Wait 1-2 minutes for the ingredients to heat up and the garlic starts to smell.
Step 6. Cook the sprouts for 3-5 minutes or until golden
Gently stir the sprouts to mix them with the other ingredients. If the pan is too dry, add another tablespoon of butter.
Tips
- The methods for sautéing and sautéing may look similar, but give slightly different results. Sauteing is a quicker method of preparation, similar to frying, in a pan with only a small amount of fat to brown the sprouts and finish cooking them internally. Stir-frying uses more liquid – in this case, melted butter – which is absorbed by the sprouts and still cooks them internally. As a result, the liquid penetrates into the cabbage.
- Kale can also be used to make delicious crepes.
