Craving cookies is a powerful thing. Unfortunately, most of us don't feel like baking a whole lot of cookies or turning on the oven when the mood strikes. The good news is that you can use your microwave! If you don't feel like making your chocolate chip cookies, leave them out and add other ingredients like cinnamon or nuts.

Ingredients

For a single chocolate chip cookie

  • 1 tablespoon of softened salted butter;
  • 2 tablespoons of pressed brown sugar;
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract;
  • ½ teaspoon of whole milk;
  • 3 tablespoons of flour;
  • 1 pinch of yeast;
  • 1 pinch of salt;
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips.

For a cookie with chocolate chips in the mug

  • 1 tablespoon of butter;
  • 1 tablespoon of white granulated sugar;
  • 1 tablespoon of pressed brown sugar;
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract;
  • 1 pinch of salt;
  • 1 egg yolk;
  • ¼ cup of flour;
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips.

To make 12 to 18 chocolate chip cookie bars

  • ½ cup of softened butter;
  • ¾ cup of pressed brown sugar;
  • 1 egg;
  • 1 tablespoon of milk;
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract;
  • 1 ¼ cups of flour;
  • ½ teaspoon of yeast;
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt;
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips, divided;

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Making a Chocolate Chip Cookie

Make Cookies in the Microwave Step 1

Step 1. Beat brown sugar and butter until creamy

In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons brown sugar with 1 tablespoon butter. You can use the tips of a fork to bring them together. Beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

It's easier to beat the butter if it's at room temperature. If necessary, soften the butter in the microwave with heats of 5 seconds each

Step 2. Mix vanilla and milk

Pour ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract and ½ teaspoon whole milk into the creamed sugar and butter into the bowl. You can use a fork or small spatula to mix the liquids with the creamy mixture.

Once you've finished beating the liquids, your dough should be predominantly thin

Step 3. Add dry ingredients

You will add 3 tablespoons of flour, but start beating just one. Then add a pinch of salt and a pinch of yeast. Add the other 2 tablespoons of flour and stir until dry ingredients are all mixed together. Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and stir.

Avoid beating the dough too much or the cookie will possibly get hard

Step 4. Place the dough on a parchment paper

Cut out a square from the parchment paper measuring 6 inches by 6 inches. Take a spoonful of your chocolate chip cookie dough and place it in the middle of the wax paper so that it looks like a ball. Lightly press the dough ball to flatten it a bit.

Slightly flattening the cookie will help it to spread and bake evenly in the microwave. You can place a few additional chocolate chips on top of the cookie dough if you want it to taste and look more chocolatey

Step 5. Bake your cookie in the microwave

Place the parchment paper with the cookie dough on a microwaveable plate. Heat the cookie for 40 seconds. If the dough still feels thin, reheat at 5 second intervals until the dough looks baked. Allow to cool for a minute before removing the cookie from the parchment paper.

It's best to serve or eat this cookie right away. It will harden if kept too long

Method 2 of 3: Making a Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Mug

Make Cookies in the Microwave Step 6

Step 1. Melt butter

Choose a small mug where your cookie will be made. It needs space to expand while it's roasting, so use a mug that holds approximately 230g. Put 1 tablespoon of butter into the mug and heat in the microwave until it melts.

It won't be long before the butter melts in the microwave. Try warming up for 5 seconds before warming up any longer. You don't want the butter to boil or it will foul your microwave

Step 2. Add sugar, vanilla and salt

Stir 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon pressed brown sugar and a pinch of salt. You can use a spoon, a fork or a spatula to stir. Make sure the mixture is completely homogeneous and that there is no brown sugar left over.

You can use 2 tablespoons of just one type of sugar if you like. Brown sugar will give a richer flavor because it contains molasses

Step 3. Add the yolk

Break 1 egg and separate the yolk from the white. Discard the white as you won't need it. Pour the yolk into the creamy butter and sugar mixture in the mug. Stir the yolk with the mixture until it is smooth.

You can store the egg whites in the fridge to use it in another recipe. Just don't take more than a few days to use it

Step 4. Add flour and chocolate chips

Add a little less than ¼ cup of flour and stir until it dissolves. Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and stir to spread them around the mug.

Avoid eating cookie dough before it is baked as it contains egg yolks

Step 5. Heat the cookie inside the mug

Place the cookie dough mug into the microwave and heat it for 40 seconds. Make sure the cookie is ready. If it is, it will have a dry appearance. If it looks thin or raw, heat it at 10-second intervals until it's done. Serve or eat the cookie right away.

Avoid heating the cookie for more than 1 minute in total. The cookie will continue to bake as it cools, so you don't want to overheat it

Method 3 of 3: Preparing Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Make Cookies in the Microwave Step 11

Step 1. Make a cream of butter and sugar

Place ½ cup of softened butter and ¾ cup of pressed brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Use a spoon or hand mixer to mix the butter and brown sugar until they have a light, fluffy consistency.

If the butter is hard, you can place it on a plate or bowl to soften it in the microwave. Be careful not to melt the butter

Step 2. Add liquids

Mix 1 egg, 1 tablespoon milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir ingredients until they are completely mixed. Make sure the egg is mixed with the other ingredients.

Use almond extract if you don't have vanilla extract at home. If you do not have either of the two ingredients, it is not necessary to use them in the recipe

Step 3. Stir dry ingredients and chocolate chips

Add 1 ¼ cup flour, ½ teaspoon yeast and 1/8 teaspoon salt to creamy mixture in bowl. Use a spoon or hand mixer to beat the ingredients until smooth. Lightly toss and stir only ½ cup of the chocolate chips.

Avoid hitting the dough too much or the cookie bar will become hard

Step 4. Spread the dough on a baking sheet

Line a square microwave-safe container approximately 8 inches (8 inches) with butter and flour. Take a spoonful of the dough and spread it evenly across the container using a rubber spatula or spoon. Place remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips on top of cookie dough.

You can also use cooking spray to line the pan

Step 5. Warm up the chocolate chip cookie bars

Bake the chocolate chip cookie bars on high power for 3 ½ minutes in the microwave. Check the bars to see if they are dry and firm. If they're still raw, bake them at 20-second intervals, frequently checking that they're done. Allow the bars to cool before cutting and serving.
