Who doesn't like the good old mincemeat? Many recipes also include, in addition to onions and tomatoes, mushrooms, celery and other ingredients, but you - if you want - can prepare the dish without any accompaniment. See how to make a simple variation of this dish in the steps below (this traditional recipe makes four servings).

Ingredients

  • 450g of flank steak or ribeye, sliced or in steaks (you can now ask the butcher to cut the meat for you);
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce;
  • 1 tablespoon of rice wine;
  • 3 chopped garlic cloves;
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar;
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch;
  • 2 sliced peppers;
  • 1 medium onion, sliced into rings;
  • 12 cherry tomatoes cut in half. If not available, use two common tomatoes;
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking oil for frying.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Preparing the Meat

Step 1. Cut the steak

Slice the steak into small, one-centimeter strips in the best “strogonof” style (you can also buy the sliced steak.)

  • The size should be enough to be snapping at ease.
  • Cut in the direction where the muscle fibers are aligned, as you will have tender, flavorful meat when cooking.
  • If you have a lot of money to invest in your plate, why not buy some rump steaks? Your minced meat will be a success!

Step 2. Prepare the seasoning sauce

In a small bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, soy sauce, rice wine and chopped garlic. Continue stirring until the cornstarch thickens the seasoned broth.

  • If you don't have rice vinegar, you can use regular kitchen vinegar. Another alternative is to use Worcestershire sauce;
  • Use garlic powder if you like.

Step 3. Marinate the steak in the seasoning

Place the steak in the seasoned bowl and mix gently. Let it sit for 20 minutes.

  • The seasoning should bathe all pieces of meat evenly;
  • Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge while the steaks are seasoned in the broth.

Method 2 of 3: Preparing the Vegetables

Step 1. Cut the onion into slices

Use a knife to cut the onion into thin strips (rings). You can also cut it into cubes if you prefer.

  • Change the amount of ingredients in the recipe as you like: if you like little onion, use less;
  • To cut the onion into slices, hold it tightly, or use a toothpick so the layers don't fall apart as you slide the knife over them;
  • As you handle the slices, the onion rings will naturally come out of the slices.

Step 2. Cut the peppers into pieces

Use a sharp knife to cut the peppers into small pieces.

  • For a better aesthetic result, use a green pepper and a red pepper;
  • To remove the seeds from the pepper, cut a circle at the top and remove the stalk with the seeds. You can also cut the chili in half, removing the "heart" from the seeds. Then cut the pieces;
  • Cut each strip into pieces of approximately two centimeters.

Step 3. Cut the cherry tomatoes in half

Cut each cherry tomato in half using a sharp knife.

You can also use a large diced tomato. Another good alternative is to use tinned tomatoes, without skin, as part of the sauce. What do you think?

Method 3 of 3: Frying the Meat

Step 1. Heat the oil

In a large skillet, preferably with a triple bottom, add a tablespoon of cooking oil and heat over medium-high heat.

  • For a healthier dish, you can use extra virgin olive oil. However, don't let the oil burn;
  • A wok pan will work wonderfully for this recipe, but if you don't have one, any heavy skillet will do the trick;

Step 2. Fry the meat

Add - in the pan - the meat that has rested in the seasoning and fry it evenly.

  • Don't mess with the meat too much, let it seal. Occasionally, just flip the pieces for a more even frying.
  • This won't take more than a few minutes, but it all depends on how thick you cut the pieces of meat from the mince. If you preferred larger pieces, calibrate the heat and fry a little more

Step 3. Separate the fried meat

Place the fried meat on a plate or container. Leave it aside for now, but keep it warm.

It's up to you: either you can fry the vegetables in the meat fat or - if you want a healthier alternative - drain the fat from the pan before proceeding;

Step 4. Fry the peppers and onion

Add another tablespoon of cooking oil (or olive oil) to the skillet and fry over medium heat until the pepper and onion are crispy.

Mix the peppers and onions continuously for three or four minutes. The pepper should appear more tender, and the onion should start to look translucent;

Step 5. Return the meat to the pan

Once the peppers and onions have finished frying, return the meat to the pan and stir quickly to mix it with the vegetables.

Step 6. Make a gravy if desired

Dissolve a bouillon tablet in a glass of water and place it on the plate to make it full.

This option should not be used if you are frying the vegetables in the meat broth left in the pan;

Step 7. Add tomatoes

Just before turning off the heat, add the tomatoes to the skillet and lightly heat all the ingredients.

  • Tomatoes should be cooked no longer than 30 seconds;
  • Mix all ingredients as they fry;

Step 8. Serve hot

To go with it, how about good old white rice?

You can also accompany the dish with fries; even noodles will do
