Cooking bacon in the microwave and frying it are the quickest ways to have this food on the table for breakfast; however, to get the perfect balance between the crunchy, chewy texture and the deep flavor of bacon, try baking it in the oven. This article teaches you basic methods of cooking bacon in the oven, plus two delicious variations: sweet bacon and bacon rolled in pods.
Basic baked bacon
0.5 kg of Bacon
- 0.5 kg of bacon;
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper;
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar.
Bacon wrapped in pods
- 350 grams of fresh pods;
- 5 strips of bacon;
- 3 tablespoons of melted butter;
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper;
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder;
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar.
Method 1 of 3: Baked Basic Bacon
Step 1. Start with a cold oven
Step 2. Place bacon slices on a baking sheet
- To make the bacon cook evenly, stretch it out so that it doesn't get folded or under other pieces of meat.
- If you prefer, place aluminum foil on the baking sheet for easy cleaning later.
Step 3. Place the baking sheet in the oven and turn it on at 200°C
You can bake it at a minimum of 190°C or a maximum of 220°C. Bacon is softer if you bake it at 190°C, almost melting in your mouth. Bacon baked at 220° C will be crispier and more consistent. If you bake it at 200°C, the bacon will be moderately crispy and tough
Step 4. Bake the bacon for 12 to 15 minutes on the first side
If you are going to cook bacon at 220°C, it is best to turn it after 10 minutes
Step 5. Remove the bacon from the oven
Rotate it and continue baking for 8 to 10 minutes.
If you're baking bacon at 220°C, check it after 5 minutes to see if it's ready yet
Step 6. Continue baking until the bacon has the desired texture
Remove bacon from oven.
Depending on the oven temperature and your preference regarding the texture of the food, the preparation of bacon can take between 15 and 35 minutes in all

Method 2 of 3: Sweet Bacon
Step 1. Preheat your oven to 160°C
Step 2. In a small bowl, mix the pepper and sugar with a fué
Put the bacon in the bowl and stir it with two forks until it gets the mixture well.
Step 3. Arrange the bacon slices on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil
Spread remaining sugar over bacon.
Step 4. Cover the bacon with another layer of foil
Take a second baking sheet and place it on top of the bacon to keep it flat during the process.
- If you don't have a second baking sheet that fits snugly into the first, use another baking sheet or try using two smaller ones. The important thing is to keep the bacon flat between the baking sheets.
- If you don't have aluminum foil, waxed paper can also work.
Step 5. Place the pan in the oven and let the bacon cook for 15 minutes
Occasionally lift the foil and see how the bacon looks.
- If bacon is browned and crispy, remove from oven.
- If the bacon is still pale and tender, continue baking.
Step 6. Remove the bacon from the oven when it is browned and crispy
Method 3 of 3: Bacon wrapped in pods
Step 1. Preheat an oven to 200°C
Step 2. Wash the pods and cut off the ends
Look for any brown or speckled spots.
Step 3. Place the pods in a large pot and fill it with water
Boil and cook the string beans until they are shiny and crunchy. The process should take 8 minutes.
Step 4. While the green beans cook, place the bacon in a microwave-safe dish
Cook the bacon in the microwave for a minute or until it is partially cooked (not brown and crispy). Cut each piece of bacon in half using a knife or kitchen scissors. Separate the pieces on a plate and set aside.
If you don't have a microwave, this step can be done with a skillet on the stove or in the oven
Step 5. Remove the pods from the stove and strain them
Use paper towels to dry them.
Step 6. Take a handful of green beans and wrap a piece of bacon around them
Secure the bacon in place with a toothpick and place on a plate. Continue gathering pods, rolling them in bacon and securing it with toothpicks until all the pods and bacon are used up.
Step 7. In a small bowl, combine the butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, pepper and brown sugar
Use a fuê to combine these ingredients. Pass the bacon-wrapped beans in this sauce, smearing them well in the process. Arrange the pods on a baking sheet.
Step 8. Place the baking sheet in the oven
Cook for 15 minutes, or until bacon is golden and crispy. Remove from oven and serve..
