Spaghetti is a delicious, inexpensive meal that's ready in the blink of an eye. While cooking the noodles, you can take the time to make various sauces. If you're in a hurry, quickly fry the ground beef of your choice and add your favorite ready-to-eat sauce. If you don't want to use tomato sauce, make pasta with butter, garlic and Parmesan cheese. If you have time to make a homemade sauce, saute the tomatoes with onion, garlic and basil.

  • 450 g of cooked and drained spaghetti.
  • 10 tablespoons (140 g) of unsalted butter.
  • 3 crushed garlic cloves.
  • 1 tsp pepperoni pepper flakes (optional).
  • ½ cup (50 g) of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons (8 g) of fresh, chopped parsley leaves.

Makes two to three servings

Homemade Tomato Sauce

  • 650 g of cooked and drained spaghetti.
  • 780 g of peeled tomatoes.
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of extra virgin olive oil.
  • ⅓ diced red onion.
  • 3 chopped garlic cloves.
  • 1 or 2 handfuls of chopped fresh basil.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste.
  • 1 pinch of pepperoni flakes (optional).

Method 1 of 4: Cooking Spaghetti

Step 1. Decide how much pasta you want to cook

Think about the number of people who will eat and the number of servings for each. Many packages of noodles already show the yield in servings. For example, if you are preparing the dish for three people, make half the package.

In order not to overfill the pan, do not prepare more than 900 g of spaghetti at once

Step 2. Fill a large pot with cold water

If you make 650 to 900 g of noodles, use a pot with more than 5 liters. If the amount is smaller, you can use a 3 to 4 liter pot. Fill ¾ of your capacity with water.

Step 3. Add salt and wait for water to boil

Put 1 or two tablespoons of salt in the water and cover the pan. Leave the heat on high and allow the water to boil and bubble a lot.

  • If using fresh pasta, do not add salt to the water.

Step 4. Place spaghetti in boiling water

Use oven mitts to remove the lid from the pan. Add the noodles slowly so the water doesn't splash, and use a tongs or a noodle spoon to stir well. The water should return to bubbling quickly.

Place 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of canola oil or other vegetable oil in a large skillet and simmer over medium to high heat. When the oil sizzles, add 1 chopped onion and 2 tablespoons of crushed garlic.

Stir them well and wait for the onion to soften and become transparent and the garlic to start giving off a strong aroma

Step 2. Add 500 g of ground beef and cook it for seven or eight minutes

Use a spoon to break up the meat during cooking and stir well until it is no longer pink. You can use beef, turkey, pork or chicken.

If you prefer, you can even mix more than one meat

Step 3. Allow the meat to drain if there is too much fat in the pan

Most ground meat sheds a lot of fat in the pan. If you have more than a spoonful of oil in the bottom of the pan, you need to remove the excess. Place a can in the sink and cover the skillet. Carefully turn the pan so the oil collects on one side and use the lid to hold the meat and keep it from falling out. Slowly pour the oil into the can.

  • Allow the fat to cool before disposing of it.
  • Do not dispose of it in the sink. Store oil in a container for collection.

Step 4. Add the sauce and cook it for ten minutes with the meat

Open the can of tomato paste or tomato paste and place the contents in the skillet. Stir well until the sauce is mixed with the meat and seasoning. Leave the heat on medium to high until the sauce starts to bubble a little and cover the pan.

Step 1. Melt the garlic butter and pepper flakes over medium heat

Place 10 tablespoons (140 g) of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan and turn on medium heat. Add 3 chopped garlic cloves.

If you want to spice up the recipe, add 1 tsp pepperoni pepper flakes

Step 2. Cook and stir the butter over medium heat for four or five minutes

Be sure to stir constantly and continue cooking until the butter turns golden.

Don't even think about leaving the kitchen while the butter is on the fire, as it can burn quickly

Step 3. Turn off the heat and add the spaghetti and cheese

Place 450 g of cooked and drained spaghetti in the buttered pan and add ½ cup (50 g) of freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top. Then use a tongs to mix everything very well.

If you don't have a tongs, use a large spoon and fork to mix the pasta with butter and cheese

Step 4. Serve the dish

Try the spaghetti and add salt and pepper to taste. Place 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley on top and serve immediately.

  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for three or four days.

Method 4 of 4: Making Homemade Tomato Sauce

Step 1. Puree the peeled tomatoes

Open a can of peeled tomatoes (an amount equivalent to 780 g) and blend them in a blender or food processor. Cover the equipment and pulse it until the tomato reaches the desired consistency.

  • If you prefer a sauce with chunks and more rustic, you can skip this step and just mash the tomatoes with a spoon when the sauce has finished cooking.
  • To make a very homogeneous sauce, beat the tomatoes until there are no pieces left.

Step 2. Saute the onion for five or six minutes

Heat 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. When the oil sizzles, add 1/3 of a chopped onion.

  • Stir the onion during cooking so that it does not stick to the pan.
  • It should be soft and transparent.

Step 3. Add the garlic and pepper flakes if you like

Peel and chop 3 cloves of garlic into 1 cm pieces, placing them in the pan with the onion. Add a pinch of pepperoni flakes if you want a spicier sauce. Let everything cook for 30 seconds.

Garlic should give off its intense smell. Avoid cooking it for more than a minute as it burns quickly

Step 4. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste

Add the beaten tomatoes to the pan and stir them well to mix them with the garlic and onion. Then experiment a little and add salt and pepper to taste.

To get a perfect flavor, taste the sauce while cooking and adjust the seasonings to refine the taste

  • If you are going to use spaghetti right after cooking, do not put oil in the water, as it prevents the sauce from mixing well with the pasta.
  • Fresh pasta cooks faster. Sometimes it only takes about two to five minutes for it to be ready.
