Believe it or not, you don't need an oven to bake a cake. Simply place the dough on a greased baking sheet that fits into a regular or electric pressure cooker. To use the normal pressure cooker as an oven, remove the rubber and valve and keep an eye on the temperature so that the dough is well cooked. In the crockpot, choose the setting for cakes and the corresponding temperature. You will be surprised to see your cake ready in half the time!
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Preparing the Dough and the Baking Sheet
Step 1. Beat the dough
Follow your favorite recipe or prepare a box cake mix according to package directions. You don't need to change anything in the recipe.
Step 2. Choose a baking sheet
You can use a metal baking pan, a glass Pyrex or a silicone pan, as long as the option you choose fits inside the pressure cooker. Use a form of the following sizes depending on the capacity of the pressure cooker:
- 3-liter pressure cooker: use 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 10 cm, 12.5 cm x 7.5 cm and 15 cm molds x 7.5 cm.
- 6 liter pressure cooker: use 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 10 cm, 12.5 cm x 7.5 cm, 12, 5 cm molds cm x 12.5 cm, 15 cm x 7.5 cm and 17.5 cm x 10 cm.
- 8 liter pressure cooker: use 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 7.5 cm, 10 cm x 10 cm, 12.5 cm x 7.5 cm, 12, 5 cm molds cm x 12.5 cm, 15 cm x 7.5 cm, 17.5 cm x 10 cm, 20 cm x 7.5 cm and 20 cm x 10 cm.
Step 3. Grease the pan
Grease the shape, whether round or square, with oil or butter. Don't forget the sides. Spread a little flour, beating and turning the pan to distribute it over the entire surface. Shake the form over a trash can to remove excess.
Step 4. Place the cake batter
Use a spoon to place all the dough on the previously greased baking sheet. Use the back of a spoon or a spatula to evenly distribute the dough, leveling it.
Method 2 of 3: Using Normal Pressure Cooker
Step 1. Remove the rubber and valve from the pressure cooker
As you won't be using water in the pan, the rubber is not needed, so remove it and set it aside. Do the same with the valve.
The normal thing is to put water inside the pressure cooker to cook food, but, in the absence of water, the pot plays the role of an oven. Use this method only if you have a stainless steel or aluminum pressure cooker
Step 2. Add 1 ½ cup (300 g) of salt
Spread it evenly on the bottom. The salt insulates the pan, as the water is not used.
Step 3. Place a metal support on the pan
Use this utensil to distribute heat and not burn the bottom of the cake.
If you don't have this support, use a grid
Step 4. Preheat the empty pressure cooker over high heat for two minutes
Put the lid on and turn on the high heat. Let the pan get hot before placing the cake pan inside it.
Step 5. Fit the mold into the pan and cover it
Use oven mitts to remove the lid from the hot pressure cooker. Carefully place the mold with the dough in the bottom of the pressure cooker, on top of the metal support, and return it to the fire.
Step 6. Reduce heat to medium and let the dough cook for five minutes
The cake should start to grow and bake immediately.
Step 7. Lower the heat further and bake the cake according to the recipe
Since you are not using pressure to cook, the cake should take approximately the same time to cook. Follow the instructions in the recipe or cake mix box.
Step 8. Check the cake
To find out if it is ready, insert a toothpick or fork in the center. If it comes out clean, put out the fire. If not, look again in three to five minutes.
Step 9. Allow the pan to cool and remove the pan from inside
Allow the cake to cool and remove the pan from the pressure cooker.
Method 3 of 3: Using an Electric Pressure Cooker
Step 1. Place a glass of water in the bottom of the pan
After that, place a metal tripod so that the cake pan doesn't touch the bottom.
Step 2. Place the baking sheet in the pan
The form with the dough must be on top of the metal tripod.
Step 3. Cover the pan tightly
Put the lid on the pressure cooker and turn it clockwise to fit snugly. Most pressure cookers will not work until the lid is properly fitted.
Step 4. Choose a high temperature
Turn on the pan and choose a specific program for preparing cakes. If your pan doesn't have this option, set it to high temperature manually.
Step 5. Adjust the temperature according to the type of cake to be prepared
If it's a light cake like sponge cake, choose a lower temperature. Most common cakes and ready mixes need a normal temperature. If the dough is heavier, like a brownie or a cheesecake recipe, set the maximum temperature.
Step 6. Set the cooking time to half
Check the recipe or instructions on the ready-made dough box to find out the best time for the type and size of baking sheet. Divide this time in half when adjusting the electric pressure cooker.
For example, if the recipe calls for baking the dough for 50 minutes, set the pressure cooker for 25 minutes
Step 7. Let the pressure go out of the pan for ten minutes
As the pressure cooker cools, the pressure also decreases. When the valve goes down, you can now turn the cap counterclockwise to take it off.
Step 8. See if the cake is ready
To find out, insert a toothpick in the middle of it. If it comes out dry, it's a sign that the cake is ready.
- It may take ten to 40 minutes for the pan to release all of its pressure depending on the size of the utensil.
- If the cake is not ready, you need to put the lid back on and turn on the pan. Check again after five minutes of pressure.
Step 9. Allow the cake to cool for five minutes and remove it from the pan
Allow the pan to cool a little before taking the shape out of it. You can use oven mitts and two tongs to make it easier. Leave the cake on a cooling rack to bring it to room temperature.
