The self tanner has improved a lot since it was first developed. However, choosing the wrong colors and applying them incorrectly produces streaks on the skin. Although stretch marks and blemishes can disappear within a few weeks, some people may not want to wait for a tan to leave their body naturally. There is no way to remove the self-tanner right away, but it is possible to get your old color back as quickly as possible.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Fixing Minor Imperfections
Step 1. Assess the damage
If the tan is even but very deep or orange then the removal method will be a little different than if you were dealing with streaks. For now let's focus on spots and streaks.
Step 2. Use lemon
He supposedly manages to eliminate freckles, right? If he can get rid of permanent marks on his skin, what's some self-tanning lotion? Lemon is perfect for blemishes on the palms of your hands or in small places where you've overdone it. There are two ways to apply lemon:
- Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice with baking soda to form a paste. Apply the mixture to the affected area, leave it for a few minutes, and rinse off by rubbing gently.
- Cut the lemon in half and rub one of the halves over the affected area. Repeat the process a few times if you have a lot of product on your skin. It's normal to see improvements right away.
Step 3. Try applying whitening toothpaste to small spots
It has whitening agents that affect both teeth and skin.
This obviously works best in small, restricted areas. Put some cream on your finger and massage it over the area. Repeat if necessary
Step 4. Use acetone or alcohol
Acetone is known to remove nail polish. Wet a cotton ball with it and rub it over your skin. However, use this method sparingly as these substances can be harmful to the skin.
If you decide to choose this path, don't forget to hydrate later. Your body will need hydration after being exposed to alcohol or acetone
Part 2 of 2: Correcting the Pitch
Step 1. Take a bath
Choose a time when you are free to be submerged for at least 1 hour. Ideally, the suntan lotion has been applied recently, as it is a little harder to remove it once it's dry!
This part is completely optional. Staying submerged longer can lighten the tone of the self-tanner, but exfoliation helps too
Step 2. Use sugar scrub
If you don't have one, you can make your own! Sugar grains remove the top layer of your skin, reducing your body's horrible color. And they even leave the skin silkier and smoother!
- Use a sponge to exfoliate and speed up the process, doubling its effectiveness. Pumice is very aggressive on the skin, so it is best to use only the loofah.
- Then, if desired, apply a gradual self-tanner. You know, one of the kind that purposely takes too long to set. It can help to match what's left of the previous application.
Step 3. Apply baby oil to the skin for a tone reduction
The longer you can keep it in the body the better, but try to leave it on for at least 10 minutes, 30 if you can tolerate the tedium of standing still! This is a good method if you are too dark or too orange, as this will reduce the difference between your natural and self-tanning hue.
Step 4. Apply a strong toner to your face, neck, hands and feet before going to bed
These will be your highest priorities, as these are parts that are not normally covered by clothing. These are also areas that are not prone to irritation from toner use.
If you have a tonifier with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (HABs), use it. These acids tend to be more effective in correcting skin discoloration
Step 5. Use a self tanning remover
Yes, it really exists and costs around R$30.00. This type of product can come in gel or cream form and is very easy to use.
It's effective, but not necessarily more than the things you have around your house
Step 6. Assess your skin color upon waking up in the morning
You should see significant improvement, but if you notice any discoloration or blemishes, continue with regular baths, rub in baking soda, and apply lemon juice and toners. No self-tanner is permanent, it just takes time to get out of the skin!
Tips
- Some salons may offer self tanning removal products. They are often expensive and there is nothing to prove they work better than homemade solutions. But you can consider trying them out if you wish.
- Exfoliate the body with a body scrub before applying the self tanning agent to prepare the skin for a more even application. Some exfoliants are specifically designed as a pre-tanning treatment.
