3 Ways to Fast Daniel

There are two references to fasting in the book of Daniel in the Bible, from which the 'Fasting of Daniel' is derived. Daniel chapter 1 describes how Daniel and his three friends ate only vegetables and drank only water. At the end of a ten-day tribulation period, Daniel and his friends looked healthier than their contemporaries who ate the high-calorie foods of the royal table. In Daniel chapter 10, Daniel fasts again, abstaining from pleasant foods, meat and wine. You too can get a healthier body and a cleaner mind by following this diet fast moderately.

Daniel's Fast encourages healthy eating. But if you have specific health concerns, make an appointment with a trusted healthcare worker before committing to this 10-day (or 3-week) diet.

Method 3 of 3: The Fast of Daniel, Part II

Give to Daniel Fast Step 11

Step 1. Go to stage two

In book 10 of Daniel, the Prophet made another fast, which lasted for three weeks. Quoting the Bible, Daniel said: “I didn't eat anything tasty; meat and wine I didn't even taste”. The second fast is basically the same as the first, but the text names three specific things to avoid:

  • Wine.
  • All types of sweeteners (including honey).
  • All breads with yeast.

Step 2. Assess how you feel after the two stages

If you feel more energetic and healthy, you will likely want to continue to maintain healthier eating habits. While reintroducing many foods that you did not eat during your fasting into your diet is inevitable, you can do so with greater awareness of portion quality and size. And it's better to eat very little of some things like fried food and sugar.

  • However, be careful not to drink too much water. Too much fluid can be just as bad as not enough.
  • Set a time limit for fasting. Maybe you want to continue Fasting longer than you thought.
  • If for any reason you eat something you shouldn't eat while fasting, it's better to ask for forgiveness and continue than to stop fasting.
  • Keep your diet simple. Avoid processed foods; favor home-cooked or raw foods.
  • If you experience weakness or headaches, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. We often don't understand how much our body needs water, especially when fasting.
  • You can supplement your diet with a multivitamin.

  • During fasting, you will face temptations. Resist them in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
  • When you have finished fasting, eat light meals and gradually return to your normal diet.
