It's really cool to play with jelly, handling something disgusting, sticky, slippery and slimy. The most common recipes use glue and borax, but what if you don't have any of these ingredients? Luckily, there are other ways to make slime (or jelly). In some recipes, you don't need to use any drop of glue, you can even improvise with shampoo and toothpaste!

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Making a basic slime

Step 1. Put some thick shampoo into a saucer

Choose a shampoo with a thick consistency (and even better if it's white or opaque). Add two scoops or about 2 tablespoons (30 ml).

  • If the shampoo is white, you can even add 1 or 2 drops of food coloring.
  • Take into account the scent of the shampoo. Toothpaste adds a mild mint scent to the recipe, so try using a shampoo with an equally refreshing scent that combines more than something sweet or fruity.

Step 2. Add a small amount of toothpaste

An opaque toothpaste (white or pale green) is the best option, but you can also use a striped one. Add ¼ of the amount of shampoo: about 1 teaspoon or a little more is enough.

Colgate toothpaste is the best option, but you can also use other brands

Step 3. Mix the two products with a toothpick

When mixed together, the shampoo and toothpaste combine to form a sticky substance in just over a minute.

If you don't have a toothpick, use any other small object, such as a Popsicle stick or a spoon

Step 4. Add more shampoo or denet paste if needed and keep moving

If the slime gets too hard, add a little more shampoo. If it gets too wet, add more toothpaste. Mix well for another minute, until everything is smooth, with the same color and texture.

  • In fact, there is no right or wrong way to make jelly. It all depends on your preference.
  • Don't worry if it gets "too sticky" at this stage. Freezing is still missing, which helps to firm up the consistency.

Step 5. Freeze the dough for ten to 60 minutes

Check the slime after ten minutes. It should be firm but not solid like an ice cube. If too soft, freeze for another 50 minutes.

Step 6. Knead the slime until it softens again

Take it out of the freezer and squeeze it between your fingers until the dough is soft and squishy again.

The gelatinous mass must not return to the same texture as before freezing

Step 7. Play with the slime

It gets really thick, almost as thick as putty. You can crush it, squeeze it and stretch it. When finished, place in a small plastic container with a lid.

At some point, the dough may dry out. In that case, throw the jelly away as soon as it starts to get hard

Method 2 of 3: Making a super gooey slime

Step 1. Put some 2 in 1 shampoo (shampoo and conditioner) in a saucer

This type of product is usually a little thicker and stickier than regular shampoo, which is perfect for making a stickier, snot-like foundation. Squeeze the bottle once or twice into the saucer.

Use the 2 in 1 shampoo from Pantene, Dove or the brand of your choice

Step 2. Add some opaque toothpaste

Add half the used measure of shampoo. If you want this slime to be more viscous, use less toothpaste.

You can use any type and brand of toothpaste, but Colgate seems to work best

Step 3. Mix well with a toothpick

You can also use a popsicle stick or even a coffee spoon. Continue stirring until the shampoo and toothpaste have a gooey, disgusting, goo-like consistency, which should take about a minute or so.

Change direction from time to time. Stir to one side and then to the other

Step 4. Adjust consistency if necessary

If the slime is too sticky in your opinion, add a little more toothpaste. If it doesn't get too sticky, add more shampoo. Don't forget to stir the mixture very well for about a minute after adding a little more of the ingredients.

Start with an amount of toothpaste you would use to brush your teeth and an amount of shampoo equal to the size of a grape

Step 5. Play with the slime

This goo is the kind that gets really sticky. She's slippery, sticky, and downright disgusting, as well as a pretty good hat. When finished playing, store it in a small plastic container with a lid.

At some point, the slime hardens. When that happens, discard and make a new one

Method 3 of 3: Making a salted slime

Step 1. Put some shampoo in a small dish

Squeeze the bottle quickly once or twice for now. You can use just about any type of shampoo you like, but a thick, white product is ideal.

If it's white and you want a colored jelly, add 1 or 2 drops of food coloring

Step 2. Add some toothpaste

Add about ⅓ of the amount of shampoo. You can use any type of toothpaste you prefer, and the best option to make slime is an opaque one. However, a gel toothpaste can also be used for this recipe.

Don't worry too much about the quantity. It's easier to add a little more later to adjust the amount and get the consistency you want

Step 3. Mix the slime until it is smooth

Use a toothpick, popsicle or spoon. Keep stirring until the color and texture are even, but don't worry if the product isn't slimy yet.

Step 4. Add a pinch of salt and stir again

Continue stirring until the shampoo, toothpaste and salt form a gelatinous mass, which takes about a minute. The mixture starts to look more like a slime from that moment on.

Salt is the magic ingredient that turns shampoo and toothpaste into slime. Use regular table salt if possible. Coarse salt does not mix very well

Step 5. Get consistency and keep stirring

Add a little more shampoo, toothpaste and salt while stirring. The slime is ready when the dough starts to peel off the saucer.

There is no exact science to make jelly, but one of the most important things in the process is to adjust the proportions of the ingredients until you get the desired texture

Step 6. Play with the slime

This slime gets thicker and a little fluffy. If you can, squeeze, knead and stretch the slime. When you don't want to play anymore, store it in a small plastic container with a lid.

The slime gets dried out over time. Just throw it away and make a new recipe

Tips

  • The slime's lifespan depends on the ingredients used and how much you play with it. Some types of toothpaste and shampoo dry out faster than others.
  • Many people say they got the formula right using Colgate toothpaste and Dove shampoo.
  • At first, the toothpaste may not mix well with the shampoo. Keep stirring until you get it.
  • If toothpaste is colored, use white or clear shampoo; otherwise, the slime may not be a very nice color.
  • If the toothpaste is white, try using colored shampoo. The jelly takes on the color of the shampoo.
  • Want a custom colored slime? Mix 1 drop of food coloring into white or clear shampoo and add a white toothpaste.
  • For a shiny slime, try a gel toothpaste. You can also mix glitter in your shampoo.
  • If the recipe doesn't work, try using different brands of shampoo and toothpaste.
  • Go testing! Replace shampoo with moisturizer, liquid soap, or conditioner. Use sugar in place of salt. See what happens!
  • Slime can be pretty sticky most of the time, so don't have a thing if it sticks very sticky.
