Read this article to learn how to properly remove a SIM card from any iPhone model. The SIM card is located inside a special tray that can be removed from the iPhone using the eject tool that came with the product or the tip of a paper clip. After removing the tray, you can easily take out your card and insert a new one.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: iPhone 4 and later (including all X models)

Step 1. Hold the iPhone upright, with the screen facing you
- Use the following procedures to learn how to remove the SIM card from iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone SE, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and 5s, iPhone 4s and iPhone 4.
- The content in this article will also work for all iPad models. However, on 3rd and 4th generation devices and on iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, the SIM tray will be on the left side and not on the right side.

Step 2. Locate the SIM tray on the right edge of the iPhone
It's located in the middle of the right edge of the iPhone 8 and earlier, as well as the iPhone XS Max, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. If you have an iPhone XR or iPhone 11, you'll find it at the bottom of the right edge.

Step 3. Insert a paper clip with a blunt end or a SIM card eject tool into the hole in the tray
The hole can be easily located at the bottom of the tray. Gently push the clip/tool into it to eject the tray.

Step 4. Pull the tray out and remove the SIM card
You can easily lift the card out of the tray. If you want to insert a new SIM card, pay attention to the position of the old card before removing it. That way it will be easier to figure out how to insert the new card correctly.
Some X and 11 models have space for two NANO SIM cards instead of just one. If you have two SIMs in the tray, be careful to remove the one you no longer need. In most cases, the name/logo of the operator will be explicit on the card

Step 5. Insert the new SIM card (optional) and reinsert the tray
The SIM card will only fit in one position/orientation due to the notch on the tray. If you have to force the card, it's probably upside down or upside down. The tray should also snap into place smoothly.
Method 2 of 2: Original iPhone 3GS and Earlier

Step 1. Hold the iPhone upright, with the screen facing you
Use the following procedures to remove the SIM card from an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and the original iPhone

Step 2. Locate the SIM tray on the top edge of the iPhone
The SIM tray is located at the top end of the phone, right in the middle, next to the Power button.

Step 3. Insert a straight edge paper clip or SIM card eject tool into the hole in the tray
The hole is on the left side of the tray. Press the clip/tool gently to eject the phone tray.

Step 4. Pull out the tray and remove the SIM card
You can easily lift the card out of the tray. If you want to insert a new SIM card, pay attention to the position of the old card before removing it. That way it will be easier to figure out how to insert the new card correctly.

Step 5. Insert the new SIM card (optional) and reinsert the tray
The SIM card will only fit in one position/orientation due to the notch on the tray. If you have to force the card, it's probably upside down or upside down. The tray should also snap into place smoothly.
